A Thread About Women

How do you feel about the recent women movement in America?

Men are naturally aggressive. It's how they survived for thousands of years. You're not going to change that. What's important is finding ways for men to channel their aggression.

Alright...if you're going to resign yourself to the fact that men are naturally aggressive and that's not going to change, then how can you simultaneously act surprised that violent criminals are disproportionately male?

Maybe the movement is sometimes applied awfully and how feminists treat certain situations expose them as hypocrites and idealogues is kinda bullshit. Again 1.where will you allow people to post their opinions and 2. will you also try to shut down our segregated threads?

Also cut out the bullshit about framing people as racist. You are fully aware of their actual arguments. Don't play dumb.

How does one woman committing a violent crime and one judge giving a bad sentence expose feminism in general as hypocritical bullshit? This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say you're making wild, baseless generalizations...

And, you're the one playing dumb if you think the Daily Wire has no racist intentions. Why did they include the detail about the judge being a Muslim, again? How is that relevant to the story at all? It's just pandering to their racist base, giving them another reason to hate Muslims.

The last time we had a discussion about something in the feminist movement there was this same discussion about the thread title. Where else should we post news stories and have discussions about feminism or the justice system going softer on women?

This thread wasn't created to talk about women as a political concept and I honestly don't have qualms about the title of the thread or the subject matter you wish to discuss.

What I take issue with is the drive-by posting where one slaps down an article about some minority/non-dominant group and pretends that they've added to the conversation. Gouri tends to take issue with the directions of threads themselves, but I don't give a shit. I just find it funny how the trend of posts in here or the BLM thread seem to focus on how these groups are victimizing us rather than realizing how we can resolve their disadvantage. And so I'm poking fun at it. For the record, it annoys me when people post a Tweet without adding their own voice as well.

Now, I do share a concern over the disparate sentencing we see between men and women for similar crimes. I don't, however, think this is a result of feminism and it troubles me how often those concerned with this issue tend to espouse anti-feminist views. Usually it's just more of this "Oh yeah, well why aren't they fixing THIS too?" kind of talk. Or, in your case, you have repeatedly stated that systemic racism is not a real problem (paraphrasing, you can clarify your position if you feel I'm misrepresenting your thoughts) in this country even though we know that disproportionate sentencing is ALSO a huge issues between races. How can we acknowledge one and ignore the other?

It's the gift that keeps on giving...first they thought they could just politicize it to trash BLM...now they realize they can also politicize it to trash feminism! Oh, and the judge is a Muslim, and giving women light sentences is a total Muslim move, or something, right?
I won't sit here and politicize it!

Some may complain but I'm going to politicize this for change!

You can't be racist against Muslims.

Who here is surprised that violent criminals are disproportionately male? That has nothing to do with sentencing disparities.

You can't be racist against Muslims.

1) Sure you can. Call Muhammad Ali the n-word and BOOM you've been racist against a Muslim. :chuckle:

2) Muslims tend to not be white, whether Arab, Asian, or African. So most Muslims in America are minorities and people profile based on race to assume religion or nationality. It should not come as a surprise that people in many instance hold bias against foreigners, especially if they are from another race.

3) You agree that someone can be a bigot toward Muslims. There is also a tendency to conflate the way someone looks with their religion. In this way, that bigotry is linked closely with racism. Look toward the dumbest racists in America that use Muslim and Arab interchangeably when referring to Sikhs from India. Are you saying that that person isn't racist because they are just trying to hate a religion?

Essentially, you are arguing a pointless and technically incorrect semantic.

Should've said "bigoted base" instead of "racist base."

If men are disproportionately violent, whether for biological or cultural reasons, how does that have nothing to do with sentencing disparities? :confused4:

Don't let the last few posts distract you from the fact that Judge William Hooks handed down a slap on the wrist to Covington, who pleaded guilty to a hate crime. RCF conversation shifters in full force today.

Because there are sentencing disparities when they commit the same crime.

As an aside, you'd also make (and I'm assuming you have made) this argument regarding African-Americans (male vs male) and the sentencing disparity there, right?

Not wanting or looking for a long-drawn out off-topic conversation, but since we're here, I just wanted to ask this for clarification.

Yes. I wrote a paper on it for school a couple of years ago.
