I just got off th phone with a guy that is an assistant coach with us ... He told me that we have at the very least three solid options already in place for a veteran bigman. He didn't say what the timeframe os going to be, but, isn't at all worried that we will have at least one, maybe two more moves coming that will get this roster rounded into shapeby training camp.

The key point, though, that stuck out was that he said the moves coming before training camp will also leaveus flexible to make a major acquisition at the trading deadline still ...

So, what this means to me is, we will be bringing in a vet big before training campo that won't use up our biggest and best trade chips down at the deadline...

As worried as I am about our "bigs" right now ...he was completely calm saying that evereything will be fine ...

A small mention was made in one column today, can't remember whoi wrote it ..but, he did mention that JJ Hickson has been out at Tim Grgurich's big man camo out in Vegas, and has looked good ...

I've heard similarly.

For those that may not know who I'm talking about, and the history of this camp setting ...
I'll give you some background ..

For many many years the very best post instructors in the world was a man by the name of Pete Newell. He was the founding father of the "Big Man Camp" ..thi was way back in the early 80's I believe.

Most every notable big at some point had some exposure to this man, and his teachings ...and the play of the post position players today has his teaching impronts all over them ...as many that had participated in his camps ...took his methodology and concepts and made them their own.

Well, Tim Grgurich is the guy that has taken over that camp and is running it now out of Vegas ....it originally was out on the west coast ..for a while in the LA area ,and for a while in the SF area ...

Tim G. has been a longtime assistant to George Karl wherever he has made his stops along the way in his career ...and along with being a great camp for post players ..you also have seen a large contingent of coaching assistants break ground on their careers at this camp ...

My dad played a big role in the Pete Newell camps for years and years ...and many coaches that I've known throughout my time in the game have had exposure to this camp...

Well, to get back to the JJ Hickson side of this conversation ..he participated in it this year and came away holding his own very well ...I was told he went up against a number of NBA level players at the camp and not only held his own, but actually was one of the standout performers of all that attended ...

So, Hickson is continuing to build upon the statement he made at summer camp ...and as more and more people get exposure to his game, he's opening more and more eyes and turning heads ...

I was told by Danny Ferry himself that if the draft were held today he would be a high lottery selection ...maybe the 2nd big off the board ...

That says alot right there ...

Great news, W&G. Hickson continues to impress, and we're still not done dealing. :D Great week for the Cavs organization. I just want to know who we're targeting. Given the fact that you don't think we'll have to give up our major trade pieces, I am thrilled.

This puts me at ease, I'm glad we already know what we're doing with the big situation. I'm pulling for JJ to get on Brown's good side so he can get some PT.

Hallelujah !

Where is that "DO IT" signature??
DO IT! DO IT!!

I couldnt be more pleased with how things have been going for us lately. Hickson has a lot of talent and its great to hear he is also a work horse. I expected us to look for an older big, as to not impede on hicksons development, but also give us a strong push for title hopes in the now.

We are still very weak at the starting 2 guard spot but hopefully we can get something done by February and just man in out with strong perimeter defenders like kinsey and sasha for now.

Getting mo williams I think allows us to explore other dimensions of lebrons game, as we now dont have to worry about who can get us points or create for himself and others when bron sits.

We should be able to see more post up opportunities or maybe use bron in pick and rolls with mo off the ball.

This is great news, the fact we have multiple options and at very least 1 will happen is GREAT GREAT news for our frontline. Since the Mo trade has been made official theres been more than just a glaring hole, this is very very comforting news.
Heres hoping its a quality big.

Oh and if its not asking too much W&G, was it made specific if we were sorting after this big man via Free Agency or trade, or both?

Having possibly one or two more moves done by training camp is great news. The team will get plenty of time to gel before maybe making another big splash at the deadline.

I can't wait for the scrimmage and pre-season to get a glimpse of the new Cavs.

Obviously a lot depends on the Delonte West situation....If he signs a tender offer, he is probably gone. If not he could be a S&T for a SG or reach an agreement with the Cavs and play the 2. While players are always availbale at the deadline, you never know if it will the right guy for the Cavs. I would like to see the Cavs put a roster togather that can win without banking on a trading deadline deal. I guess what I am saying, I would have no problem trading Wally (our best trading deadline asset) now for the right guy. With that in mind who is likely to be available and who fits our needs best?

Anyone else feel that Ferry has matured and progressed as a GM ten fold, in the last week?

I wonder if one of those big 'options' is Tractor Traylor, hehe. I'm not real sure if he's going to be able to do much scoring though.

Ferry has shown us all something we didn't think he had in him with his last 2 trades. He may be slow and methodical but he does have a plan and he is executing it.

He's no Savage, but he's closing the gap...

I don't know if its Tractor, because i think somewhere i read that he was going to camp with the Lakers. I could be wrong though..

Haslem, Curry, David Lee are guy I can think of.

Getting a veteran big man that would still leave us flexible at the trade deadline sounds as if we're gunning for someone in free agency. Who is still out there?
