Addressing the hole at center

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Greg Oden is a lost cause

I wouldn't say that. The biggest thing Oden needed to show was that he could stay healthy, which he did. The Heat are so perimeter oriented that their post guys only touch the ball on rebounds & put backs. Oden still is just 26 years old. I'd like to see him be able to salvage an NBA career after all of his injuries.

He played 219 minutes over a span of 26 games for the entire season. I wouldn't give him too much credit for staying healthy. Plus, his personal problems are too much for me to overlook for such a low reward prospect.

Playing Tristan at the 5 in an offense that is going to require ball movement, cutting, shooting, and basketball IQ is about one of the worst ideas I've ever heard. He is the complete opposite type of player you want.

As far as I'm concerned, the best options are:

1. Gortat - I would gladly overpay for him just so I can stop seeing all of RCF post about how the Cavs need a "rim protector"
2. Gasol - literally the perfect player for the type of offense the Cavs want to run
3. Roll with what we have - Zeller/Andy/HAYWOOD...pray Andy doesn't get hurt
4. Resign Hawes - this was a David Griffin move so I don't see why this wouldn't remain a very viable option

Gortat we'll have to break bank for and he'll most likely resign with Washington.

Gasol won't sign here, he's looking to win. Funny thing is I can see him going to the Knicks where he still won't win.

Hawes is lookin to get paid. If no one wants to bring in Monroe because of future contract, I don't see how Hawes is any better as an UFA. He's not worth the money.

I'm okay with rolling who we got as long as we're looking to trade when the opportunity is right. I really do not think our front court is set as is.

But in regards to Tristan and how he fits on this offense...

Oden certainly is not a guy you would want to count on to start, but he might be able to provide something in a reserve role. Of course, at this point, Zeller looks pretty entrenched as our backup center.

Oden? Why are we already shopping the on the 1 dollar menu?

If we are going to dig that far, we should just roll with Varejao, Zeller, and Haywood.

From a FA standpoint its Gortat or Frye for me. Otherwise look at trades.

Varejao might be more injury prone that Oden. His greatest value to the franchise is his partially guaranteed contract.

I agree that a trade is probably where we'll have to look for an upgrade at center. I wouldn't dismiss the Cavaliers re-signing Hawes in free agency. He's not a low post threat though, which is what Blatt's offense really needs.

I don't agree with this. Oden was out of the league for years.

Even if true, Andy is 10x the player Oden is on the court.

But yes, trade seems most likely.

varejao is more injury prone (ie: prone to injury); oden is just flat out injured/too beaten to contribute meaningful minutes. neither are particularly appealing options.

the prospect of a guy like frye starting at center makes me want to vomit. hawes too. asik was probably the best realistic option but that was a no go because of the lebron plan. everyone else is likely out of the cavs price/skill range - grizzlies aren't trading m gasol, gortat will need to be super paid at which point it may not be worth it, pau will likely want to win and he sucks anyway.

sanders is an interesting roll of the dice but like asik, planning for lebron would interfere with him. milwaukee supposedly wants a vet big for him, in which case hawes/jack could work, but the cavs would have to give up his rights to get the room for lebron + whatever extra stuff. i don't think it'd be possible to sign lebron and then do hawes/jack for sanders although kyrie/wiggins/lebron/bennett/sanders actually fits real well. problem would be youth and inexperience, so lebron would have to wait a year for contention but it'd be a great option for him to contend 5+ years in one city.

Why can't we just trade Dion for Drummond?

I'm sure Van Gundy would understand, Dumars would.

If the Cavs pull that off, even Cavs fans who love Dion would understand that. it would kill the Church of Drummond and the Cavs suddenly look less inept.

Which means it has a .000000000000000000000000000000000000006159% chance of happening

I am way less into Drummond after 2013/2014 than I was the year before. He isn't going to get any more skills I think. He has shown very little progress in any sort of shooting or basketball awareness. As physical and good of a rebounder as he is, he is just not my favorite type of center.

Everyone wants to throw Dion in on any little trade, but I think he is our Harden. If you get rid of him without getting a real impact player in return, you are going to be OKC wondering why you can't get back to the finals.

I know it probably won't happen, but I think if the Cavs think they know what they have already with their young players they are mistaken. I'd really like to wait at least until the trade deadline, so we could see what Blatt can do. If nothing else, they win some games and their value is at least a little higher than roleplayer on a 33 win team.

Oden = ridiculous. Maybe Marcus Camby is available?

Channing Frye isn't a center. I'm interested in him as a PF. He has good mobility, but if you're asking him to defend centers on a regular basis it's not going to be pretty.
