Moving Iggy talk to a new thread - Old thread HERE

Brian Windhorst talks trade deadline and more: Cavaliers podcast
By Joey Morona
February 03, 2010, 12:33PM

Should the Cavaliers trade for Andre Iguodala? Would they really jettison loyal veteran Zydrunas Ilgauskas? Do the Cavaliers actually play better without Mo Williams?

Cavs beat writer for The Plain Dealer Brian Windhorst answered those questions and more during his Wednesday chat session.

Among the other topics discussed:

• Have the Suns or Wizards still shopping Amare Stoudemire and Antawn Jamison?

• Is there any reason the Cavs couldn't win the NBA Finals with the team they have now?

• Are any other of the top teams in as good of a position to make a trade as the Cavs?

Re: Andre Iguodala on the market?

Ive seen Iguodala play at least 20-25 times since he has been in the NBA and Dalembert probably more.

This is my point. Not everyone watched other team games, not including when the Cavs are playing them. They are talking about this guy and that guy but they dont paid close enough attention to have a clear view of that player. I trust reviews like DraftExpress to a certain extent but you gotta make your own review with a non homer glasses on. Dont get me wrong. There are people like you who watches other games because they love basketball but there are many who dont. I can say there are wagon fans in this forum who follow Cavs just because they are winning and because of Lebron. There are people who wants a player because either he is a big name star or they just wants to be in the in crowd. You can ask them why they want him, and they'll just copy notes from a review site, and not from his own views.

Re: Andre Iguodala on the market?

If you listen to the podcast about 10-15 mins in, Windhorst says that the Iguodala trade is probably less than 50-50, stating that "It isnt the Cavaliers, its what the 76ers want. They called the Cavs and said we want A, B, and C. Its on the Cavs now to see if they feel like the remaining $56 million is worth taking on."

Also, he states that when he didnt play in the first half of a game earlier in the season (I feel like it may have been one of the Raptors games but if someone could help out here I'd appreciate it) he responded very negatively and that they are now scared to trade him because they arent sure if he will sign back after the "tantrum" for lack of a better word, that happened. So he said that they wont trade him unless they are 1000% sure (yep 1000%) that he'd sign back.

He touches on very briefly that the Cavs do NOT trust the Wizards at all and are trying to figure out a way to get him without going through Washington.

AND to whoever says that the Cavs play better WITHOUT Mo Williams, BW has one word for you..."Nonsense."

I agree with this but only to an extent. Yes, I haven't watched three dozen Iggy games. But like you said, DraftExpress (and other scouting reports) rate him favorably, and claim he does things that would make him fit here. Further, 76er fans, who see him night in and night out, seem to believe he does those things too. I can't watch a dozen games of each player who might come to Cleveland, so I'm OK with trusting their opinion of him.

Anyway, guys...Iggy just won't work here....

Whatever you have to do Ferry, even if it means turning into the back door man.

MYoung,

Are there any NBA athletes that you do like?

I'm on the fence. AI2 is a great investment in the future if Lebron stats but I don't know if he is the piece that puts the Cavs over the top this year.

That's the same with me too, sure he'd be a great addition for the long run, but i believe there would be a bigger transition period with Iggy, than with getting a Stretch 4.

Agreed. 'tawn is the much better fit immediately and would shake up the roster minimally, most likely. AI2 is the young core guy we've all been clamoring about to pair with Mo, LBJ, AV, etc for years to come. But more guys would be moving and chemistry may change. However, you can't deny the talent he has on both ends of the floor, and he just turned 26 on Jan 28th.

I am kind of going back and forth with this. I really feel if Iggy gets moved here he really could flourish, ala Pau Gasol- a good player goes to a great team and becomes much better.

That said, with the recent "emergence" of Shaq in the offense, and finding new options with Mo and Delonte out, maybe we don't need to make any big moves right now. I mean this is basically the same "core" that brought us as far as we did last year, and now we added Parker, Moon, and Shaq.

Iguodala thread moved back into Cavs Talk? Mods sending cryptic messages? :chuckles:

Prepare for another 100 pages tonight!

But shouldn't we be strongly considering the future, too? And being "over the top" then?

The adjustment period may or may not effect our championship chances this season. But once we got that adjustment period over with, we'd probably be back to dominating. If that takes an off-season and training camp, so be it. With Iggy we don't need to rely on winning a ring this season, we know he'll help lead us to (hopefully multiple) rings in the future.

Agreed. But this year will most likely be our last year to make a big impact move for awhile. You have to SERIOUSLY consider adding a talented player like AI2...he's 26. And after-all, if LeBron can lead a team of scrubs to the finals (a la 2007) you can't POSSIBLY be worse off with AI2, Mo, AV, and Shaq - and whoever else - on your team.

I'm on that boat too.

Iguodala is easily in that class. Has the potential to be an All-Star as a complimentary star, but just mired in mediocrity when the whole burden is on his shoulders.

If it wasn't for Iggy's supersized contract, it would be a simple problem. We rolled the dice on Mo Williams for the same reason, and it worked out. So I guess in that vein, coupled with the Shaq trade, I should trust Ferry's talent evaluation.
