AV, Cavs agree to deal - 6yrs, $42.5 million

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Anything over 7 Million is overpaying imo.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

I called this.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

I can't wait to find out the dollar amount. Did Ferry crumble and overpay, or did Fegan realize that he wasn't getting any other offer and wanted to lock up a long-term deal.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

No, supposedly there is a three way trade in the works that will bring Bosh and Dwight Howard to Cleveland.

Stay tuned......

yeah but i heard they wanted delonte. talks are at a stand still

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Even if we're not thrilled, at least we can move on.....

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Remember, this is exactly what has been mentioned time and time again before the FA. It was said this was what they wanted to do FIRST before actually making any other deals. AV was priority number uno, and now, as long as it goes through, that stepping stone's out of the way.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Cool. Hope we're not overpaying.

yeah .... right .....

I'm not a big AV fan but people are right: This is (hopefully) one of the domino's that needed to fall before we can move onto the rest of our offseason plan.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Agree with everyone that it is a good move to keep him, get him locked up for a while, and hopefully for the right number. Andy is a great player to have on a team.

2 more signings/moves to go... PF, wing...

If we land Frye for 2-3 years we'd have some nice young pieces up front
Andy/Frye/JJ/Jackson. No superstars but some good talent that could pan out or at least would have some trade value come the deadline or next offseason

Shaq/Frye/Parker or Barnes plus resigning Andy would be a pretty good offseason for Ferry.

Outside of Larry Hughes, Ferry does not have a history of overpaying. In fact he's been pretty shrewed when it comes to giving out salaries (Andy the 1st time, Gooden, Sasha)

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Would you rather the news be that we couldn't re-sign Andy? That we'd be even more screwed with our PF/bigs situation by losing out on our most proven young big?

If Ferry or Fegan truly caved in, I'd imagine it'd have to be Fegan. No way Ferry crumbles this early into free agent talks (you can't even sign players til tomorrow anyway).

And if it DOES end up being a 4-5 year contract, I'd take that as nothing but a good sign. If LBJ had any kind of talk with Ariza about remaining a Cav, surely LBJ has done the same with Andy to a degree. Now that's both Boobie and Andy who have signed long term deals, knowing damn well that they could be left here with a Lebron-less Cavs team come 2010.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Wasn't it reported we weren't willing to go too much above the MLE? Someone must've given in quick, hopefully it wasn't the Cavs. I'd prefer Andy around 7 million a year at the maximum.

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Glad to get this done if true...

Re: Rumor: Anderson Varejao Deal Close

Fegan works with Andy and Marion, right?

So...who's to say Fegan didn't rifle through the Cavs' stockroom....dig out an Andy wig...place it on the other FA....
