Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
oh and without it doubt it fucking blows.

I miss both eras of the LeBron James led Cavs.

This blows. I'd much rather be discussing who we'd have to possibly face in the East or in the Finals than trying to tank.

But the whole extra level of drama around said product is exhausting to keep up with as a fan.

Then you'll love LeBron's third era with the Cavs.

I don't think Goff and Mahomes are even close to being on the same level right now. Mahomes is head and shoulders better.
I wasn't ranking them in any particular order. Just stating they're the top 2 QBs in the league for the foreseeable future.

I'm just going to enjoy when Mayfield makes it a top 3 and who knows? Maybe he can surpass them

Its a joke, if you noticed Cavman responded with "winner" on both.

He is one of my favorite posters on here.

Things fly over my head on the reg boss.

My insincerest apologies.

Seriously, I was just fucking around correcting you; it was supposed to come off as dickish humor because I had poked fun at the grammar in one of your posts a day or two ago.

I couldn’t imagine thinking the Browns have “figured it out” after they came into this season with Hue Jackson and Todd Haley, fired both and have shown themselves to be mediocre for a stretch of a few weeks.

They have a long way to go before proving that they’ve “figured it out.”

I agree with you.

But I will say that having the franchise QB in the fold is entirely half the battle.

I’ll consider the other half “figured out” once I see more evidence that Jimmy and Dee have finally conceded full autonomy to John Dorsey.

And recently it’s starting to seem like we’re fairly close to that happening. We’re close.

Can't wait for the Baker vs. Goff/Mahomes debates that are coming in the not so distant future
Next on [insert hot take show]: Would the NFL be better off with Mayfield and Mahomes playing in NY? A bunch idiot journalists who've never been the midwest discuss.

I don't need a debate on who is better. I couldn't imagine anything less relevant.

Goff, Mahomes, Mayfield look like they're leading the way thus far and proving they can get it done at this level.

That's all I need to know, my only concern is how Dorsey is going to keep talent flowing onto this team to maximize his tenure on the rookie contract.

Be prepared for this to go unread and to continue receiving digs at how you’re not acknowledging that he’s good.

They're still coping with the unfathomable horror that I referred to him as a rich mans version of a guy who made multiple Pro Bowls but may not be among the elite statistical QBs.

This for sure. We have cap space now. We need to add talent now... Ideally with those contracts expiring when our young guys are due to be re-signed.

I did a quick list of QBs drafted the last 6 and tried to rank them who I would want to be my starting QB for the playoffs this year. After I did the list I thought who I would trade Baker for if I could to build my team for the next 10 years.. Mahomes is a no brainer. If Wentz was healthy but with a blown knee and fracture in back I don't know if I would. The same with Watson and his knees I wouldn't make the trade. Goff is the one that kinda stumped me. I just don't know if he is going to continue to be better then Baker.

It's really hard to do fair "Baker versus...." comparisons/projections given the relative quality/experience of the receivers with whom he's had to work, not getting a single first team snap throughout all of training camp and preseason, and the coaching staff turmoil that he had to endure. We can say that he's really good, but exactly how good is going to have to wait until we can evaluate him v. other QB's on a more level playing field.

I'm just happy the Browns finally figured it out after 28 years.

The two most important ingredients for a successful franchise are: 1) a good GM, and 2) a franchise QB. A good GM -- by definition -- is going to be able to find the right coach, and build a roster around that QB.

To me, what Dorsey has done is pretty remarkable. The decision to keep Hue wasn't his, so it's not fair to judge him on that. Where I give him huge points is not just in making the obvious decision to fire Hue when Jimmy finally gave him the green light, but the completely unexpected decision to fire Haley as well. It was the right decision in terms of sending a message to the whole franchise, but also showed that he had seen enough of Kitchens to know he'd be at least competent. That's why I'm pretty much going to be happy with whatever coaching decision he makes at the end of the season. He's pretty much demonstrated that he knows more about the business than do any of us.

On the player acquisition side, there are always people who will find something to quibble about. But he not only nailed the QB decision, but really did an outstanding job with his other picks.

So yeah, I'd agree that we've finally "figured it out". The two key positions are filled with excellent guys, and it seems as though Jimmy is sufficiently impressed to finally give his GM a free hand.

We're finally on our fucking way.

I felt they were fairly even until the Rams went to Chicago and lost ugly. I really do believe there are some QBs out there who have always played in good weather and get exposed by the elements. Chicago's defense is very good, but I believe the cold rattled Goff as well. Looking at the path to the Super Bowl, the Rams should have played against their last cold weather stadium for the season. Goff also has McVey calling everything in his earpiece, which means he doesn't have to make many adjustments solo. Goff is damn good, but he has some underlying extra supports once you look deeper.

I don't disagree (QB play vs RB) but it's still hard to ignore that he might run for 1,400 yard on 5+ per carry, on a team with a dogshit QB and a bad offensive line.

Baker needs 8 passing TD's over his last 3 to break the record......that seems like a stretch but we'll see. Even tying it (7) would be an amazing feat, given he won't get a full 16 games.

Eli has been shit on a ton this season in these forums. He has the highest rating of his career at 95.8 and the 3rd highest Y/A of his career. Most basic stats show he is still the same as he has been for most of career, which is a slightly above average NFL QB. Do advance stats show he is awful this year?
