Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Baker hangin with Tom Brady? They must’ve hit it off on that commercial.

That suit makes me think he might be a spokesman for "Good and Plenty" in 2019.

TMZ sports has proven to be kind of legit on reporting rumors, and Cowherds odd hate of baker is one of the more interesting things to me. Its funny and very entertaining.

I guess it's just from not having watched ESPN, Bleacher Report, Barstool, or any of that shit in probably 10 years but any of these hacks just rub me the wrong way.

There are so many good analysts doing podcasts or youtube--to listen to a mega media talking head is just unfathomable to me unless it's on in like a doctor's office.

Its like the beginning of a bad joke.

So a Goat and a Baker walk into a bar to watch some horses race.

The Goat looks at the horse and says, "why the long face"?

And the horse says (insert punchline here)

And the horse drafts another starting QB with a premium draft pick?

And the horse tries to sell you on Paxton Lynch?

And the horse begs Peyton to give it one more shot?

Always liked Favre. Also always liked John Madden's love affair with Favre. You can take off Brett's arms and legs and he'd still be the best torso in football.
I'll say it...

Brett Favre threw 336 picks in 298 career starts.

Brett Favre threw 14 or more interceptions in 15 of the 19 seasons in which he actually played (excludes rookie year).

On the other hand, I am hoping those 14 interceptions thrown by Baker Mayfield in the 2018 season are the most he ever throws in a single season.

There are a lot of things similar in their games, but here's to hoping that he's the efficient version of Brett Favre.

Touche. I also think a lot of the Favre comparisons are based on Baker's personality. Favre was a true gamer and a guy that a locker room could rally behind. Our guys have been saying that about Bake since he walked into training camp last year.

I agree with that. He’s a man’s man, an emotional leader, and he’s got that attitude. Not to mention, Favre was Baker’s idol.

I just think—dare I say—that he can be better than Favre statistically in this era by not being quite as stubborn as Favre was on the field. It’s crazy to say, but Mayfield is better at distributing and finding the open man. Favre would throw it to a terrible read just because he thought he could. And half the time, he pulled it off.

I saw a lot of gambles Baker took--that I love. They paid off, but man are they going to occasionally get picked.

A more mobile Favre is my best Baker comparison at the moment.

I don't think he'll throw as many picks as Favre did, but I don't think he'll be the most careful QB in the NFL with the football either.

I would never coach the down-field shots out of Mayfield, nor would I get on a gambler for giving his receiver a shot to make a play.

That said, I really think Baker takes more pride in distributing and manipulating a defense than he does squeezing a ball into triple coverage. Thus, I think that alone makes him less turnover inclined than Favre was.
