Baker Mayfield: Fire The Cannons

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The foolery I was referring to was mostly after Kizer’s first regular season start against the Steelers. There were a lot of people deeming the QB search over after that start

Mayfield is a better prospect than Kizer. no one stated otherwise. My point was that we shouldn’t rush into deeming the QB solution solved after a small sample size of success, not that Kizer was an equal prospect to Mayfield.

Guys Tyrod is here for 1 season. All parties have known that for quite some time

We drafted Baker Mayfield #1 overall. Short of literally an MVP season from Tyrod he will be a Cleveland Brown for this season and it’s Baker’s team next year

There isn’t going to be an extension and he’s not going to sign up to be a backup in a QB starved league where he’s going to get starter money
If he has a good year, I’d anticipate a franchise and trade situation where we look for a 3rd or 4th

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if Taylor leaves in free agency and goes on to start for his next team, the Browns would almost certainly get a 2020 3rd round compensation pick, yes?

That depends on who we sign this offseason.

With a lot of cap room, we’d likely be very active and that could hinder the compensatory picks we receive from the league.

If I recall correctly, it’s evaluated as summed losses versus summed additions.

This is part of why Sashi let everyone walk his first year without adding much,
to load up on picks.

Edit: Additional Info

The exact formula is unknown, but the original analyst who explored the compensatory pick system, AdamJT13, spent many years predicting teams’ assigned picks with a large degree of success. He specifically explained the system as:

As the NFL explains, compensatory picks are awarded to teams that lose more or better compensatory free agents than they acquire. The number of picks a team can receive equals the net loss of compensatory free agents, up to a maximum of four. Compensatory free agents are determined by a secret formula based on salary, playing time and postseason honors. Not every free agent lost or signed is covered by the formula.

Although the formula has never been revealed, by studying the compensatory picks that have been awarded since they began in 1994, I’ve determined that the primary factor in the value of the picks awarded is the average annual value of the contract the player signed with his new team, with an adjustment for playing time and a smaller adjustment for postseason honors.

Thats why giving up a third round pick for him was an easy thing to do.

Anyone here play Madden?

Just bought the game today and if you play as Mayfield some of the commentary references the Hee Hee moment.

They talk about how part of why he was drafted was when the Browns were there Mayfield came out and made "a noise" and then all of the players made the same noise and then they started practicing

Hee Hee made it into Madden. Hue Jackson must be the God damned developer of the game.

It's the most unbelievable thing I've ever seen

The kid can move and has a damn good arm in the game. Fun to beat up on kids with the Browns.

I've been doing the ultimate team and the loading screen picture of Mayfield has to be the worst fucking picture of him in existence.

Man I hated the pick, but how can you not like the guy now that he is a Brown.

He is just fun to root for.

I don't really get hating the pick. Even if you preferred one of the other QBs more, I think that, at worst, Mayfield was on the same tier as Rosen and Darnold. This wasn't an example of the Browns defying logic and taking a guy who no one agreed was the best QB. There wasn't really a consensus this year.

I personally liked Rosen the best heading into the draft, but I also thought Baker was on the same tier as him. Baker also seems like much less of a cunt.

The fact no qb has every succeeded from the Big 12 had me very nervous. I didn't trust the stats, they were way to Weeden like, I am afraid all Big 12 QB's stats are inflated.

But that doesn't mean I hate the kid, he is extremely likable as a player.

I know a lot of people who work in Barea liked Darnold during the college season. The tipping point seemed to be when Dorsey brought in Scot McCloughan as a consultant. Theres a lot of football to be played and Mayfield will eventually have some struggles, but McCloughan deserves some kudos for making an against the grain assessment.
