I'm totally a beer snob. I have over 1,000 beers rated on RateBeer (joined 2012).
I love the Belgian strong dark ales the best. The highlight of my beer life was getting my hands on a Westy. Also love all the Trappistes Rochefort beers, Struise Pannepot, St. Bernardus, Chimay Blue.
I've given only two perfect 5 ratings in my 1,022 beer rates: Westvleteren 12 XII and Founders KBS.
The American craft scene has long been dominated by impy stouts and IPAs, and I like a lot of those, but I also like a lot of the German and English styles: pils, Oktos, schwarzbiers, weizenbocks, brown ales, ESBs, and winter warmers.
Not into the hazy IPAs that have been big lately. I prefer the traditional bitter IPAs. Don't like the low-alcohol ones, either -- IPAs do best at about 6.5-9% ABV, IMO. The DIPAs can be too heavy for me, but I love Dogfish Head 90 Minute. I miss Stone's Ruination; that was another well-balanced one, too.
Of breweries, I'm impressed by almost everything Founders and Sierra Nevada do. Their quality control is outstanding.
