Lets discuss Benny-Mac as a potential #1 pick..

Obviously going back to back shooting guards is not conventional, but there is a feeling that Ben is a more well rounded player over Dion..

Possibly the best player available..

He's the only other guy I'd even consider at #1 outside of Noel. I don't know about him being more well-rounded than Dion, but I will say that he has elite skills that are far more conducive for him to play next to Kyrie.

Pass. No sense picking a guard with the top pick when a potentially elite center prospect with no mental/motivational red flags (like Drummond) is available.

I also don't really get the argument that McLemore is more well-rounded than Dion. He's a better shooter and probably a better athlete, but Waiters is a much better ball-handler, passer, and has the first step that McLemore lacks. Waiters can create shots for himself and others. McLemore can't.

Taking McLemore would basically be admitting that drafting Dion was a mistake. Don't see that happening.

Especially since Waiters had a promising rookie season. Hell, he made all rookie first team in a pretty good draft class and played very well in 2013. He has work to do, but he and Thompson are two of the guys on this roster I really trust to put the work in.

I don't think drafting McLemore means they think Dion was a mistake. It means they think McLemore is the best player available. You get the best talent now, hope the pieces fit together, and if they don't you start making trades.

I don't think he is the best player available, though. I doubt the Cavs think that either.

I'd take Oladipo's defense, intelligence, and intensity over McLemore's if we were going to go in the SG direction.

Who's the last guy without a killer instinct to be a dominant NBA player? Is there one?

Mclemore has a ton of talent but no mean streak. Those guys typically fall by the wayside in the NBA.

Self had to beg the kid to be more assertive last season and even said as much. He compared him to Brandon Rush.

How is he going to respond when a league littered with alpha dogs challenges him every night?

I'm a KU fan so I have seen Mclemore play alot and know his game very well, but I have my concerns. He has all kinds of talent, but he has a demeanor that scares me. He just flat out isn't very aggressive, and I could imagine he would be even more passive in the NBA since he will be playing on a whole new level with superstars and veterans, which I'm sure would be intimidating. And to be fair, it could maybe be used in a good way since it shows he isn't selfish and can learn to play within the flow of an offense which is a great trait to have, but there were SO many times where he should have taken over on KU and be more aggressive to lead his team to victory, but he never really did and let his far less superior teammates continue to make the plays. That shows lack of leadership to me, which can be learned, but the guy has to be way more aggressive and hopefully he can figure it out in the NBA.

That being said, I think he will be a solid player in the league and won't be a bust by any stretch, but I don't think he will live up to the hype and expectation that everyone has for him. He definitely has the potential to be a player like Ray Allen in his prime, but I don't think he will quite get there but could get close. So that said, would a player that could potentially be Ray Allen at the best be super worth a number one pick? Not really in my opinion, especially when we have Dion who will either be just as good of a player, if not better. And I highly doubt Dion would want to come off the bench, especially to a rookie. So basically I'm not sure he fits either way.

I would only take him if Nerlens had confirmed injury complications, but even then you would have to consider other candidates.

He reminds me of Jeremy Lamb, which would be nice to have as an asset, but not preferable as a building block. I would take Oladipo over McLemore.

OKC took Harden and Westbrook. I've been waiting for this thread, even though I am sold on Noel and moving up to take a guy with a big Ceiling who drops like Shabazz. But if we can go in reverse and he makes sense you don't pass on a future perrennial all-star just because you have a guy like Dion. I just don't know enough about him as it made no sense if we didn't have the first pick to look at. But, makes a lot of sense now to look at him.

I'm getting tired of the OKC comparisons.

Irving is a PG. Waiters is a SG. McLemore is a SG.

Durant is a SF. Westbrook is a PG. Harden is a SG.

One of these things is not like the other.
