Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Paul Pierce - Earl Clark hybrid, but like 95% Earl Clark.

I'm glad the Cavs are taking a chance on Billy, but he doesn't look like a natural when he's playing against NBA athletes. He lacks feel for the game in the worst sort of way and his agility seems to be affected by a "top heavy" build that makes it hard for him to change direction. The whole situation reminds me too much of Perry Jones except the Cavs didn't use a draft pick on him, which makes it all seem like a very reasonable way to use a 2-way contract.

To me he looks like a guy that is 6'10 and has never actually had to use all his height and length to play the game. He plays smaller than he is and needs to get use to using his height and length to his advantage. At times when I watch him I forget how tall he is, he plays like someone 6'5.

I hope he is able to build up his lower body and get more explosive. He gets very little lift when he jumps.

I hope the g-league will help bridge the gap in his development but I think he will need to go against true nba height and length to really develop. I hope the Cavs utilize all his nba days to properly develop him instead of leaving him just in Canton all year.

Really no different than Sexton in a sense - Young players that need to develop. They’re just at different levels right now.

I see a very big difference. Preston seems like the kind of kid who keeps getting more chances because he stretches the tape measure like an NBA player, not because he knows how to play. Very few young athletes develop into NBA players and Sexton is light years closer to that goal than Preston right now. And he's not just a little bit closer. Right now the gap is a lot larger than a "one guy got to play college hoops and the other didn't". The gap is "One wants to murder his opponents and the other looks lost". The gap is that one kid has a great feel for the game and the other has a great feel for 6' 10". This is why Sexton was the #8 pick and Billy ended up undrafted and only able to find a two way contract to pay the bills

can't make them love it. If Billy doesn't love it now, grinding out G-League games in Canton won't change that.

Is there a track record for kids who came into the game looking like they had the feel of Anthony Bennett and left it looking like Tim Duncan? (maybe Jermaine O'Neal?) Probably a few out there (Greek Freak?)

So much criticism for a 2way contract player. Looking around the league these are the longshot types that are getting the 2WP designations. Does he ever become a productive NBA player? Odds are stacked against most of these cats but it's not like the Cavs used a pick or any assets to acquire him. Dude's a project that isn't taking up any space on the 15 man roster. I'd rather them invest in someone like Preston who is young albeit raw over a 30 year old such as Holland.

Having Holland on a two way contract is a real head scratcher. I thought we had alot of guys with alot of potential on our summer league teams over the last two years. It doesn't make any sense that we will use a two way contract on Holland two years in a row.

Sure. Right now neither are championship quality- Sexton is significantly "closer" if you're measuring them, hence his first round top 10 pedigree. Preston may never see an NBA Court.
But, generally speaking, both need to develop. Sexton is by no means a finished product. One will do it in an NBA uniform being provide every opportunity, one will need to battle through the G league and scrap for an opportunity to make an NBA roster down the road.

Billy had his best game so far tonight for Canton, 23pts, worth keeping on eye on to see if he can show some consistency

And ONLY 3 Personal Fouls. He had a game earlier where he got 12 really quick but picked up some fouls just as fast and hardly saw him the rest of the game. It’s going to take him a while to figure things out. Hasn’t played meaningful BBall for a while. Hope he does turn things around, too much talent.

Watch some highlighta of his... His game style and body type is kinda similar to Rashard Lewis, hopefully he just need more game experience and not PEDs to develop to a NBA player

Very impressive game for him, his shot looks very good here, and he had some nice drives and a couple nice passes too. It's just the g-league but at least we're seeing progress. In this game at least he looks like how a top player out of college should look against the g-league.

I like how he has contracted his game. It's all catch shoot or pump fake. Looks like he's trying to grow into a stretch big. I also like his in between flip shots they are a really great shot to master

Nice highlights. Preston looks so much better - just doesn't look lost anymore. it is great to see him learning and applying what he's learned.

Another one that has been doing great is Colson. He's been very efficient scoring and showing a nice 3 ball. I'm wondering given his size if he could play the 3.

I said way back when they signed colson not to sleep on him. He does have a odd size but can shoot and hit the boards. I think he will be in the league by years end
