Billy Preston: Most likely the next LeBron James

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If Billy is called up by the Cavs for at least 15 days this year, he will be a restricted free agent for the Cavs next summer.

That's not much at all.

The father of a top-rated college basketball prospect testified Thursday that his son was offered thousands of dollars on the sly to play at major programs — and had at least one offer upped because of what a fellow recruit allegedly received to attend Kansas — before a corruption scandal derailed the promising player’s collegiate career.

At a federal trial over allegations about dirty money in college hoops, Brian Bowen Sr. said that an aspiring agent, Christian Dawkins, told the father he could pocket $50,000 if his son played at the University of Arizona, $150,000 at Oklahoma State or $100,000 at Creighton. Bowen said there was some interest from Oregon but didn’t recall a cash offer.

.....

The $100,000 total was an upped amount from a previous offer because, as Bowen Sr. recalled hearing then, it reflected a sum it took for Billy Preston to go to Kansas, Bowen Sr. said in his testimony. A five-star recruit and the No. 20-overall high school prospect in the Class of 2017 according to recruiting outlet 247Sports.com’s composite rankings, Preston never played for the Jayhawks as the university investigated the financial picture of a vehicle he was driving on campus. Preston left KU midseason and is now a member of the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Since that stuff has been going on for decades I really don't care about who got what.
What I do care about is that Preston looks totally overmatched in the minutes he gets. Not much basketball IQ. Canton will be a challenge for him.

I agree and is a direct reflection of playing time against any competition and the level of competition he did face over a two year period. He is way behind the curve but at least he has skills that can be worked with. There is a starting point which is good. Many don’t.

I'm glad the Cavs are taking a chance on Billy, but he doesn't look like a natural when he's playing against NBA athletes. He lacks feel for the game in the worst sort of way and his agility seems to be affected by a "top heavy" build that makes it hard for him to change direction. The whole situation reminds me too much of Perry Jones except the Cavs didn't use a draft pick on him, which makes it all seem like a very reasonable way to use a 2-way contract.

I keep on saying with him, giving him time (to grow) is the key. There are elements of talent to his game. Right now, he very much looks like a KID who hasn't played hoops recently let alone against the best players in the world.

He might not ever become a player. Right now, he looks like his mind is moving a million miles an hour. I love his length and I can SEE the potential. He sort of sadly reminds me of Jumaine Jones, who never quite could put all his talent together to become a consistent pro.

He is young. Cost us nothing. Stick him in canton for a year. Bring him up a few times to have a taste. Zero to lose here

Constant reminders. Simply put him down in Canton and let him learn. I haven’t heard much negative about his work ethic- let him grind out his de facto freshman year, mature and assess his progress after this year.
Really no different than Sexton in a sense - Young players that need to develop. They’re just at different levels right now.

Reminds me of Lenny Cooke. That's not good
