Brandon Too GoodWIN Two Be True

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Hey, he sucked at first. What can I say?

These days the dude is like a different player. Love him. He's actually started to make plays AND shots. That's a happy turn of events, but certainly nothing you saw coming based on his first games with the Cavs.

While we're digging up old posts… there's a treasure trove of people proclaiming their undying love for newly acquired "basketball genius" Rajon Rondo. Hey, it happens!
You generally assume the worst case scenario about pretty much everyone.

No matter what, if Rondo gives us absolutely nothing else, he served 2 purposes. 1) He's still better than Pangos, and he's keeping Pangos off the floor thereby preventing any number of Cavs fans from going postal, and 2) He got Valentine off the roster.

Now he serves as a stopgap who can allow Goodwin to rest instead of Goodwin playing 48 minutes, or resorting to the dreaded Pangos. Beyond that any other positives in terms of veteran leadership, mentorship and schooling up guys like DG and Sexton and Goodwin, that's all gravy.

It's a carefully calculated, winning strategy. Most things in this world are pretty crap.
It is true that the worst case scenario happens a certain percentage of the time, so in the sense of a stopped clock being right twice a day you're onto something. But some of us prefer to consider upside instead of downside.

Except when it comes to Pangos, there is no possible upside to that guy. So feel free to shit on him at will. We can team up on that.

Rondo is going to fill that "over 34" role at the end of the bench, and it can't be taken for granted.

James Jones, Richard Jefferson at the end there... Mike Dunleavy... We had a lot of guys who can play well once a week or in a pinch. The problem is when they are expected to play 20 minutes a game every game. We had good Dunleavy days, and we had bad Dunleavy days. You usually know if it's a good day with your old dudes in the first two minutes of court time.

Totally agree on the necessity of that role, but I’m just not sure Rondo as a human/mentor can be relied on for the same type of culture fit as a James Jones or RJ. Hopefully I’m wrong - seems to be working to date. We’ll see how it goes when DG comes back and Goodwin is still getting his minutes.

I honestly forgot we had dunleavy

When I see Schroder I instantly think scrotum… If we get him I’d really like to see him change his name to like Tennis or something.

Dennis Tennis for 3.

I’m sorry for this.

I think JBB can still throw Rondo out on the floor with DG and Goodwin every few games, even if only for 5-10 minutes. JBB seems to like the 2 guard rotations for a certain percentage of the possessions ever since it worked so well with Rubio.

That's assuming we don't get Schroder. if we get Schroder some feelings will definitely have to get hurt.

I honestly forgot we had dunleavy

We had a bunch of "future coach or front office" vets at the end of the bench. Jose Calderon would have been a better parallel for Rondo. Dunleavy is pretty high up in the Warriors front office now.

Rondo can fetch Rubio's coffee?

Another positive about Goodwin game lately, teams that might think were desperate for a steady backup PG , might lower there prices…

On the flip side the Pacers probably licking the chops after LeVert went crazy last night….
