I know there has been some trade talks in the regular season thread but perhaps it’s helpful to allow us the space to discuss it separately so it doesn’t excessively overlap news and talk as it relates to the current roster, team dynamics and other pertinent information.

Throw out your ideas, rumors, news etc?

Hollywood Brown and Garrett Bolles are 2 mentioned that I hope they look into.

I do get it that fans aren't happy with the receiver production outside of Coop. I just don't get too excited about a deadline deal for a receiver. We did overhaul the receiver room over the off-season. Since then, Watson's health and rust has been the real issue in my eyes. I mean, do we really know Elijah Moore or Ced Tillman's ability level from the small sample size so far?

As for Bolles, I feel like offensive line is more of a straight forward transference of skills. The system in Denver isn't that different than the system run by the Browns. There isn't a chemistry variable like receiver.

And I still believe Kareem Hunt has some meat left on the bone. Don't dismiss the veteran just yet. Veterans who skip camp start out slow every year. The big question is whether his body is catching up to the speed of game play after a long layoff.

Like I said before...

It's not like DPJ and Moore forgot how to play the position.

I strongly suspect you'll see the WR production magically increase when the QB play improves.

The one game the Browns got good QB play, not surprisingly their top 3 guys in receiving were Cooper followed by DPJ and Moore tied for 2nd.

Agreed. It makes no sense to worry about WR production when the problem has been the guy(s) behind center all season. Upgrading at WR with PJ Walker throwing them the ball makes little sense.

Would you trade for Saquon Barkley and what would you give up?

For a rental it shouldn't cost much. If it's a loner term move then I think it's still less than what SF gave up for CMC which was 2023 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 2024 4th.

I think Saquon could be had for a 3rd and a 4th maybe with conditions.

Saquon could also play with Chubb and this would allow us to slowly work Chubb back in next season. This also removes the Elijah Moore RB package out of the playbook lolololololololololol

But seriously I don't think trading for Saquon Barkley is a bad move with us being in the position that we're in. His skillset and ability can cover a lot of holes on our offense and he'd be excellent in the backfield with DW4.

Also I'm not saying trade for Saquon because of his name. He truly would transform this offense. His ability in the passing game as a receiver would be ridiculous for us. If we made this move we could really use Kareem in more of a goal line/short yardage situation. Ford can still get a decent amount of reps too.

As far as draft picks and money, I don't think it would cost too much.

My guess is we dont make any trades at the deadline, I know some will be pissed, but the cost has to be worth it, out team is very expensive and really need to see a healthy Watson and what he can do, no option, he has to be better.

I don't disagree but if there was ever a year for us to go all in on a midseason trade then this is the year. The year when you have the best defense in the league and a favorable schedule down the stretch.

I guess my thought process is that people probably don't realize that we are currently in that win now all in window. I know people still want to have their eye on the future as far as draft capital and cap flexibility goes but those years won't mean shit if we aren't trying to win right now.

Are Jerome Ford and Kareem Hunt good enough to get us through this season? Yes but we're not just trying to be good enough.

Is the WR core behind Coop good enough to take us through a deep playoff run? You can probably convince yourself that they are but trading for a legit #2 WR or another #1 is absolutely better and good enough.

I just don't buy the notion that this year isn't a year to go all in. If this year isn't a year to go all in then 2024 and 2025 aren't either.

In fact, I can argue that 2023 is the year to go all in because w don't know what Chubb is going to be like in 2024 and we're likely going to lose some guys like Delphit and Newsome if another team wants to pay them for being awesome for us. So there is a downside to having so many good players. Some of them will be poached.

When you have the best defense in the league by far and the league is as wide open a it is this season, that's enough reason to go all in right now.

If we did acquire Barkley, there is almost zero chance we keep him beyond this season if we also plan to keep Chubb. AB isn't going to tie up that much cap space into the RB position in 2024.

For one season I don't think it's out of the question.
