Browns rant thread.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I need Ben to develop a way to filter out words on this site. "Wentz" and "Watson" would immediately be the first two to go on the list. They're not on our team. They'll never be on the team. Give it a fucking rest already.

I think Wentz is a great indictment of this front office. If you're saying that for that reason.

Frankly for me? it plays into a greater picture. They could have easily passed on him and went for a guy like Zeke or Bosa. (I know OSU, but they're also solid pro players). They didn't. They figured that next year's first was worth more than a franchise cornerstone, and went for a reciever that (if he's on the field at all) is a 2nd option at receiver.

Same could be said about 2014. You passed on Pro Bowl talent in Khalil Mack, Mike Evans, Anthony Barr in favor of trading down with Buffalo so THEY could try to find themselves a playmaker in Sammy Watkins (didn't turn out but I digress.). You THEN decided to draft Justin Gilbert over Pro Bowl talent in Ryan Shazier, Taylor Lewan, Odell Beckham Jr., and CJ Mosley.

Do we need to go into detail about badly they fucked up drafting a QB in that draft?

This is...beyond embarrassing.

This is my point though. If Hue can coach the guy for a full week at the Senior Bowl and come away with the decision he wasn’t sold on him (then the FO didn’t draft him) would you as the owner of the team trust those same people to use a high pick on a QB two years later?

Not that it matters, but the Browns weren't one of the two coaching staffs at the 2016 Senior Bowl.

To add?

This team has put itself into a position where trading down from here on out (with the first pick that is) is not an option.

They've also put themselves in a position where there should be only one non-qb even worth discussing for that first pick in Barkley.

I don't know who that's going to be other than maybe Rosen or Jackson at this point, but the excuses are no longer relevant.

2014 front office was Farmer & company. Much worse than what we currently have.

We're still paying the piper for their actions.

They drove away talent like TJ Ward, Alex Mack, Travis Benjamin, Jabaal Sheard, Ahtyba Rubin, Travis Benjamin, and Mitchell Schwarz.

You were so TOXIC you drove away a OC that was coaching in the Super Bowl.

The drafts were also flat out atrocious. But yes, this is all rolling down hill from that regime.

One guy isn't going to change everything.Football isn't basketball.

Basketball one superstar can make an entire front office and coaching staff look good. (LeBron).

Football actually requires that you have a good coach and good talent evaluation.

So a QB isn't going to fix everything. But we need one badly.

FWIW I think the Browns are actually still set up pretty well to be good in the near future. But I don't think Hue is the guy.
An average QB it can get you at least 6 wins. How many times have we lost with a QB that can't get out of his own way? The Browns should focus on building a 6 win team.

Not this front office in that draft.

yep a player that was nothing more than gamble ends up doing well "see I told you that player was going to be an all star and the browns made a huge fucking mistake by not drafting him."

browns take a reduced risk gamble on a QB on the second round that hasnt done well through 7 games "see i told you that player wasnt going to do shit, and the browns should have never wasted a 2nd round pick on a guy with so many question marks"

its a bunch of posters playing hindsight 20/20.

I want every poster that is pissed off the browns didnt pick wentz to come back and show me their posts of how much they wanted him at the 2nd pick in the draft. Because quite frankly i remember a very very very small portion of this board having any interest in him at that pick.

Let's talk QB for a moment.

I remember a time that a younger Steve Young in San Francisco got benched because THAT DAY he was flat out sucking. He started the next weekend. I remember when a rookie Troy Aikman got pulled because THAT DAY he was flat out sucking.

Kizer is the youngest starting QB in the NFL and honestly he isn't ready to be a starter this year. That said, I'm not sure it's time to give up on him as a project.

The flipside of that is when Kaepernick got pulled two years ago as the starter, left the team, and came back in 2016 with an afro, going vegan to get crazy skinny, and ready to stir shit up. It's become the norm to coddle the "franchise QB" rather than treat him like any other positions. Hue is taking a huge risk with how he treats Kizer, but what is there to lose with risks when the guy just isn't feeling any success?

That said, I thought both the Kessler and Kizer picks we're boneheaded moves, so I might be tainted by that.

I predict we roll with Kessler in London with Kizer on standby but who knows? He might roll with Kizer again because he hates Kessler's lack of arm strength.

Hue did the right thing benching Kizer. People are saying Hue is ruining Kizer. It's more like Kizer is self imploding and Hue is trying to stop the backward steps and let him start fresh. Kizer needs to get through just one game without throwing the ball to the wrong team.

I actually did. I thought he could had perhaps play with this team considering his size and the fact he played in colder weather.

...

BUT....This is such a disaster of a team that this goes well beyond drafting a quarterback.

e: I was even for drafting Trubisky and Watson numero uno fwiw.

I don't agree with the methods Hue has used so far with Kizer and Kessler. If I'm the front office, I would tell Hue to pick a QB and show that in these last 9 games he can develop him. It doesn't matter which QB it is but he needs to take a more hands on approach and maybe give up playcalling to someone on the staff. If we are going to use a top 3 draft pick to get a QB, we need to know Hue can actually develop him.

He was brought in because he was a QB guru. He has been a glorified OC to this point. He needs to focus on the head coaching and QB development part of his job. These are two things we have lacked the most since coming back. A good OC can be found in the offseason if need be. I just don't think a good HC and QB coach will walk through those doors if we blow up the current coaching staff.

Let's not forget that most people in the game thread were praising his improved performance in the first half until the wheels came off the bus at the end of the half with that first INT.

I really wish that we could just win a damn game, so that moves made completely out of desperation (like switching QBs at the first sign of shitty play) to get a win could stop fucking with the development of our young players. As many have rightly argued on here, I think Hue ultimately gets the axe after the year for shitty decisions he's made in game, but part of me wishes that they would just come out and say you will definitely not get fired and see how he coach for the rest of the year.
