Browns trade for Patriots' Jamie Collins

This is literally a no-risk scenario for the Browns.

Absolute worst-case scenario, if Jamie Collins walks in free agency after the season, you likely get your 3rd round compensatory pick back in 2018.
 
In a single move DePodesta got a better player than Farmer ever managed to obtain. Feels good to be on the receiving end of a deal like this.

I've never felt better about a winless team in my life.

I recall one game Collins didn't play, the Pats defense really struggled.

Collins hasn't exactly been healthy either thus far. He's their best defensive player, regardless of how they try to spin it.

The guy is an elite cover linebacker, and can rush the passer.
 
Oh my gosh Adam Schefter is acting like this is a great move for New England. The guy is such a hack.

Don't even bother watching ESPN, you'd think Jamie Collins is a bum all of sudden listening to these idiots.

Also, the guy just hasn't been exactly healthy. New England will get rid of you over some really petty shit. Everyone acts like they're a class organization (cheating going and all) but they're pretty ruthless too.

I don't really give a shit if he was having problems getting along with the coaches all of a sudden.

This is the same organization that blasted Jimmy G for not playing with a bummed shoulder. They somehow look at you being injured as your fault. Kinda bizarre.

Collins would have to be an abject moron to sign before hitting FA. The move is not 'no risk'- the Browns could be easily embarassed if either he leaves in FA despite the Browns offering more OR if the Browns get outbid on the guy they desperately need- but it certainly is ' high reward' if they can use the rest of the season to convince him to hitch his cart to this horse. Hopefully Huge Action can pull this off.

Yep, most football guys consider Collins a top 10 player at his position.

When you can acquire a top 10 player, who just turned 27, for anything less than a 2nd it is robbery.

Given it is a compensatory 3rd (between 97-100), I love it.
 
And he will come in already hating the patriots.

I know you are legally required to come in guns blazing with the hottest take possible, but please consider football is nothing like basketball or baseball. Guaranteed money and the looming franchise tag are both extremely large motivators in a profession where severe injury is significantly more likely than any other sport.

Also if the negotiations don't work out you can just franchise tag him for 2 years before you even need to make a difficult decision on whether or not he is worth the 3rd franchise tag.

This was an outrageously good move and there's really no spinning that it's not
