Carter Almost A Cavalier?

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I say VInce probably wont happen cause theyre still well in the playoff hunt and could easily make the postseason. Even if in February, theyre 5th or 6th in the East and they still wanna get rid of their aging star to make room for their young core, they wont give him up for Wally and draft picks.

If they traded Vince here, it would at least require Wally, draft picks and one or more of Varejao, D-West, Boobie and Hickson.

Tha fact is that Vince is havin a great year and him and Harris are possiblythe best backourt in the NBA. You just dont trade that away for one exxpiring contract if you have a great chance of makin the playoffs for the first time in 2 years.

Its still possible, but this team is possibly already the best team in the league and the main reason is chemistry with every single guy on the roster. Ferry wont be breaking that apart if we're still winning. The only chance of Vince Carter I can see is if Ferry pulls off one of those 3 team mega deals.

No, there wont be any "mega-deals."

As for Vince... It is more likely that he gets traded while the Nets are playing well. If they were playing poorly, then it would be considered Vince's fault, and his value would be low. Rod Thorn wants to get a steal, in the mold of the Jason Kidd trade. The Cavaliers will never give-up any of the players you mentioned for Vince. If NJ offered Vince for Wally, then we would do it. We would probably even go so far as to send Eric and Sasha for Vince. But Hickson, West, Varejao... not a chance...not even if Vince started averaging 50 points a night with a FG percentage of 100%. He could go 20 games without missing a single shot, and put-up triple-doubles every night and we still wouldn't do it.

While the Nets play well, Vince's value is high. Thorn will entertain any deal that nets him relief + picks and/or talent. Thorn isn't dumb. He knows that regardless of how well the Nets play this year, that they have 0% chance of going to or winning the championship. He would trade Vince in a second if someone would offer a little more than we did... He seriously considered trading him to us.

That being said, Vince is way down on my list of people to bring in.

Yep ... likely outcome is that Thorn will want value for Wince, and Ferry will be looking for a slam dunk that won't hurt our existing development/chemistry ... so nothing will happen with us. Technically if Thorn likes what he's getting for his $$$ out of Wince, but wants to free cap space for 2010 - there's no need to salary dump him until next season.

Give up the draft picks, the draft this year is incredibly weak, you wont be missing much unless Thabeet somehow falls all the way to the mid 20s where the Cavs will be which I doubt.

I'd love to find a way to get Stephon Curry if he decides to go to the draft this year. If he could slip to the 30th pick that would be balling. LeBron was once again on the sideline for the Davidson game earlier today, being amazed by the kid.

I think we would need to get rid of Boobie if we were really looking to get him though. Does anyone know what his intentions are or how much interest we have in him? Would our desire for this kid affect our willingness to throw in draft picks?

How do you add Vince Carter without hurting our development/chemistry?

Well, we wont go and get Vince now. The idea was to use Vince next to West until Gibson matured. At-least that sounds like the most-likely scenario to me. However, now that we have Mo...Vince is no longer needed. He is not needed for the same reason J-Rich isn't needed: The Cavs no longer need another play-maker. If they pick-up a 2 or 3, he will be a good defensive player, who can hit the open shot.

As far as an offensive 2/3... the only exception I could see would be Redd. And that is due to his amazing ability to shoot and his personality, which would fit seamlessly with this team.

That being said, I don't see Redd coming here either. We want a Big-man who is younger, who can play defense and post-up... and preferably hit more than 40% of his charity shots.:gap:

VC im kinda 50/50 on. I think that if we get another 2/3 we need to get one that doesnt need alot of shots, like VC or another guys that are mentioned. The perfect guy for the 2/3 on our team, I think would be Shane Battier. Everyone always says that we need an allstar with LBJ or near all star, but in all reality we are like 2 good role players away.

Good point Snowblind. I was going to bring up Battier myself but you beat me to it. He brings what many say we could use. Solid D, can hit a perimeter shot and has 3 point range, and would have no problem filling his role. He also is a player who wouldn't hurt chemistry at all.
Unfortunately I don't think Battier would be available.

If things go bad in Phoenix maybe Raja Bell could be available at a decent price. Another solid defensive player who can hit perimeter shots. Also has a contract that expires in 2010.

Right now it's tough to see a major deal unless it fits the exact parameters Ferry wants and he doesn't have to give up long term pieces.

Vince doesnt need a lot of shots, I dont know why people think that, he's not a volume shooter, he's just on a young team that needs him to carry the offense most nights. Look at how he's playing tonight, he only took 12 shots in 43 minutes, however he finished the game with 14pts, 10rebs and 8asts, it's that type of all-around game that would make him a perfect fit for the Cavs. The key here is that if you need him to have a big scoring night he can do that, the Cavs cannot afford to have another poor scorer in the starting lineup with Ben Wallace out there, so forget Battier or Raja.

I want VC but the dream guy for this team IMO is Shane Battier as someone mentioned earlier...he is the perfect defender/spot up shooter that would make a KILLER match for the other pieces we have

I really doubt that Houston would be interested in a Wally for Shane deal but I would kiss the ground Danny Ferry walks on if he could pull that one off

Shane Battier and Ben Wallace on the floor together is a disaster, the Cavs dont need a spot up shooter at the 2, they need a dynamic player that can create for himself or others and make a jumper. That's exactly why Delonte/Mo/LeBron have been successfull, because the Cavs have 3 players that can create on the floor. I can only imagine how bad the offense would look with Battier, there's a reason the Rockets offense was so horrible the last few years, as good as Battier is on defense he's equally as bad on offense.

I guess I disagree because I don't see DeLonte running the show when he is out there with the first unit

I see him spoting up and shooting it incredibly well...

maybe I am wrong but I think Shane would be a good fit....I say that and I really want VC as well...Adding a dynamic scorer like VC would make our offense redonkulous...adding a grat on the ball defender like Shane would make our defense extremely stout

i dunno

Delonte is making plays, whether it's finding LeBron on curls, or running the pick and roll with Zydrunas, the simple fact that he can put the ball on the floor and create makes the Cavs tough to cover. Battier is a good player, but he is nothing more than a catch and shoot player, he's not going to make plays off the dribble.

Sure, adding Battier would make the D better, but the offense would be very predictable and you'd see LeISO make a furious comeback.

I guess I feel what you are saying....I worry about how we match up with the Lakers and I am somewhat scared of how the Delonte on Kobe match up

Vincent sure does a great job on Kobe though...thus leading to him being a better fit

I think you have officially sold me against Shane....the more I look at it, VC on this team would lock up a 'Ship

so when you say you dont want a guy who shoots a lot then you dont want an all-star caliber??? instead you want a role player in raja bell who is basically a boobie??? you might as well just keep wally
