Cavaliers Trade Ideas: 2022-23 regular season edition

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I’m interested in how you think Allen would net us a top 20 player back. The answer was trade Allen and Keep Mark. We messed up.
That's the answer if you live in a made-up world with cotton candy clouds and unicorns flying through the sky.

All evidence is that Utah insisted on Markkanen being in the deal, especially with Mobley/DG off limits. There is no version of reality where the Cavs could have gotten Spida while keeping Markkanen. But don't let that stop you.

Not sure if that’s true. Allen, Garland, and Mobley were all off limits in that trade. There are articles with Koby saying as much. He was just coming off an All-Star appearance. Utah may have still wanted Lauri, but I don’t think the option was on the table.

Based on that, Lauri, Love, or LeVert had to be in the trade to make money work, the. sexton made up the rest.

Once he said "literally anyone" could play center, I stopped engaging.

I won't. I doubt they would have walked away completely.

Can I ask why people are looking at trading Mitchell instead of Garland? Do people believe he’s the better of the two? Personally I don’t think so.
Setting that debate aside (and it's really close given the last two playoff series Mitchell had) Garland is under contract for 5 more years, Mitchell is a flight risk, and the Cavs traded a half a decade's worth of draft capital.

To get better?

I wouldn’t trade either at the moment. Summer 2024 would be the time, and probably only if Mitchell signs an extension.

The exception would be trading Garland for a player you like still on a rookie deal plus other players/assets, or trading him for a player like Bridges who has multiple years left at a low number.
Yeah, trading Garland is unthinkable to me. Mitchell is nowhere near the PG he is. It won't be long before Mobley starts making noise about wanting out. The Cavs could end up in basketball hell for the better part of a decade.

I was with you til the Mobley stuff. Too early to worry about that. He isnt Kyrie

So your doubt = proven "fact" that the Cavs could have gotten Spida without trading Mark. Yeah, I'm sure an offer of Cedi + Dean Wade would have gotten Danny Ainge all red and tingly.

You gotta give if you wanna get.

The "doubt" I have is pretty reasonable, never claimed it was fact. Not sure why you're even inserting the word fact in quotes when it wasn't used in the context of the conversation. The league was well aware that the Jazz wanted to blow it up and move Mitchell (were you paying attention to the NBA during this trade?). You just don't move away from a trade after one offer. Trades are an exercise in negotiation.

Clearly Allen is the other part of that trade. You've got to be kidding me or you haven't been a fan of the NBA very long if you don't realize that.

I was playing around with the trade machine yesterday & came up with this.

Cleveland receives: Keldon Johnson
San Antonio receives: Jaren Jackson Jr.
Memphis receives: Jarrett Allen & Devin Vassell

Why?
Cleveland needs a wing.
San Antonio gets the best player in the deal, good fit next to Wemby.
Memphis gets two all-star caliber players.
