he's an unrestricted free agent now. a lot of ppl wanted him last year to replace boozer, but he was restricted and memphis signed him to a one year tender. if its defense you're looking for, stro show blocks almost 2 shots a game. he only played 23 min a game on average and got about 6.5 boards. he never started consistently in memphis. imagine him logging 35 minutes a night next to lebron. plus with lbj and hughes in the top 3 in steas, imagine them ripping a pass and throwing an alley oop to stro show on the other end?!?!!?

exciting team to watch, good interior defense, good athletic rebounder...gooden and boozer COMBINED cant provide those intangibles.

He is the prototype athletic forward we would love, but he really has not progressed in his career. He just isn't a smart player, and people get his occasional highlight blocks mistaken for good defense. Memphis needed defense yet under Fratello Swift seen spasmatic minutes. He's in the Drew Gooden league of basketball IQ, maybe even a step back. I wouldn't hate the signing, but to me he isn't our answer at the 4.

If we wanted an exciting team, Stro would be a great signing, but we want to win games, even if it means winning ugly, we want to win. Stro is just a player who wants to look good.

TIP TO STRO: You'll look good by doing the right things on a winning team, not doing big dunks on an average team.

who do we try and get at the 4 then?

I have never seen Stro play. But from reading his numbers, he is pretty much a contester on defense. He will contest every shot, and rebound. I am not sure how his man to man D is, but I am pretty sure it is better than Drew Goodens.

If he was signed, it would pretty much be like having Drew Gooden all over again, except more exciting.

Reggie Evans

Yeah but isn't Reggie Evans is an RFA? I don't see why Seattle would let him go.

Edwin

They have Nick Collison waiting in the wings. Evans is a beast to be sure, but I would have some reservations about acquiring him to be our starting power forward, the main one being that it would be like playing four against five on offense. Teams basically don't have to guard him. As for Swift, he's a lame brain who gets hurt all the time. A highlight reel waiting to happen, but not a building block.

I really don't know what to think of Stromile Swift. I wonder if he is too much sizzle and not enough steak. How good can he be if he is only on the floor for 43% of the Grizz minutes per game? He has been in the league 5 years and he is 26 years old. We should have seen some growth these last 5 years. Instead his numbers are the same, if not trending slightly down, over the last 4 seasons. His first 2 seasons in Memphis were better than his last 2 in Memphis. He has flashes of greatness but the total package leaves a lot to be desired. He has freakish athletic ability but his mental makeup is often questioned. Almost sounds like he and Gooden could be related.LOL Maybe all he needs is a change of scenery for that breakout season everyone has been waiting for. I really don't know.
I'm not saying I'm totally opposed to Swift....I just think there might be a better consisitent option out there.

In terms of basketball IQ if Gooden is a dunce, Swift is postively retarded. I see no point in getting Gooden 2.0 and frankly Drew was far more impressive at the end of last year then the Stro Show

Indeed. Swift is not better than Gooden. Somebody needs to bring forth a great argument proving the case because I simply cannot and do not see it.

Swift would fit our needs better than Gooden. Not to say that we really need his services, but if we could do a straight up swap I wouldn't be against it. By no means should we pursue him for a large contract.

He's pretty much a clone of Drew, but focuses his attention more on the defensive end rather than the offensive. He has a more explosive leap, allowing him to block more shots. He lacks the post moves that Drew has, limiting his offense to alley-oops and dunks from his athleticism. But his defense is much more developed than Drew's and would only flourish more under Mike Brown.

the thing i don't like about stro is his softness... i remember marcus fizer was killing him in games between the bulls and grizz.

he's like a soft keon clark

Haha, no way do the Grizz trade for Gooden again. They already shipped him out after half his rookie season. I say we trade Gooden to some team that needs a scoring PF for a lottery protected first rounder, that way clearing $4 million more in cap room. That gives us around $11 mil I would think? Sign Stro to between $7-8 mil his first year and give $3 mil to Sarunas. Imagine a team with Sarunas and Stro with Z, Bron, and Hughes. It would be all offense, I guess, with a bit of D from Hughes, Stro, and maybe Bron (definitely not much from Z and Sarunas). But that's why Mike Brown was hired. To be a teacher on defense. Teach them defense and let them take care of the rest of the show. And it would definitely be a show.

Tracy McGrady has expressed a strong need for Stromile Swift. He is pulling hard for him to join the Rockets. He would be a great fit over there as well.

I believe the Sonics are in the bidding also. With these two teams chasing after him, I think it would be hard for the Cavaliers to get him at a decent price AND get ourselves a PG. Of course, this can be done by trading Drew Gooden for cap space, but by the time that comes around, Stro will probably be signed by one of those two teams.
