Cavs summer league team

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I'd rather get Delly back, but I'd love me some Craft too.

He needed to work on his three the past few years, I've been watching him in Summer League closely. He almost made GSW, I think it was two years ago.

if he is all this then why didnt he get drafted...
Because the draft was very, very deep. I worked it and had a lot of interactions with NBA people in Brooklyn. That was something they all talked about - the depth of the draft. The general feeling was that it was the deepest overall draft in recent memory - maybe in the history of the draft. That doesn't mean everyone will pan out.

But here's a little nugget - 47% of all NBA players were not drafted in the first round. It's not likely you will find a star after round 1, but you may be able to find good role players and rotational guys that can fill out your roster.

One of the Cavs unsigned free agents does have star potential - that's Preston. He also has A LOT of question marks, but he does have potential. Other guys have the potential to be role players. Not all will make it, but the more you sign up, the more you can look at.

If I were the Cavs I would seriously try to lock up 3-4 spots for development. That's two 2-way contracts and 1 or 2 on the back-end of the 15-man that can assigned to Canton as well. Those guys on the back end so rarely see time, might as well use those spaces to see if some of the younger guys can grow. That's the future. With the NBA allowing 18 year olds in in 2021 again, expect there to be more development slots on the way. I fully expect the NBA to put rules like MLB in place. You come in at 18 or you have to wait until 21. I also would not be surprised if we see the G-League expanded or that each G-League team's roster will be fully controlled by the big club. So there'll be more rules about service time, call ups, etc.

This guy was a 5 star recruit for Kansas but got kicked off the team for driving a stolen car. He never played for Kansas last season, so he went to Europe and played for 2 different teams. First round talent, but nobody saw him. 6'10" 240 lbs.
Good pick up by Altman.

I want to clarify something here, because I think it's important that people don't have the wrong impression here. He wasn't driving a stolen car, nor did he get kicked off the team. He was involved in a single car accident in a car he was driving, so he didn't any other cars or people, and there was some question as to how the car was acquired. The car wasn't stolen. Preston wasn't out here stealing things. Kansas held him out as the NCAA and KU compliance attempted to clear up the matter. It took far longer than anyone anticipated, with no end in sight, and Preston wanted to play. Kansas LET him leave to go play in Europe. I don't know if the NCAA just dropped it because he left, but there never was any word on whether or not he could have played a game had he stayed.

Might seem minor, but saying "kicked off the team for driving a stolen car" isn't just implying character issues that aren't there, but outright saying there are character issues.

Earlier in the summer, Norm Roberts, the KU big men coach, said he sees Preston as an extremely versatile player:
“Has all the skills. Has all the skills,” Roberts said. “On a given day, Billy Preston can look like Paul George. On a given day, Billy Preston has the skills of Carmelo Anthony. On a given day, he’s got the length and the size very similar to a young Kevin Garnett.”

Wait, he doesn’t have any Paul Pierce in him? He’s not worth the time if so.

Coaches always hype up their player and former players. I like him but I’m not getting hyped up about coach speak.

PG - Sexton
SG - Mathias/Holland
SF - Osman
PF - Preston/Colson/White
C - Zizic

I’d have to think that we have a chance to run the table in Summer League.

Extremely well-balanced with explosive athleticism and NBA experience. Mathias—the best shooter in college basketball last year—is extremely high-IQ on the floor and will pick up the offense quickly. Sexton is very sharp and relentless on the floor.

All of these guys complement each other very well.

I’d love to see Cedi take that next step. Maybe average 18 ppg in Summer League while flashing confidence in his shooting stroke.

Defensively, this Summer League team has a chance to be fantastic.

I know, who cares about LVSL, but I get excited when we have some youth worth caring about. It’s a sign that our team isn’t entirely old as fuck.

First time since they drafted Wiggins that I will try to watch any of their sl games. My son is playing an AAU tournament in Vegas later in July so will try to sneak over a few days early and catch at least one of the Cavs games. Doncic was the other player I wanted to see but apparently the Mavs are going to hold him out of LV.
I saw Billy Preston play in person a few times when he was still on the AAU circuit here in SoCal. His mom was always pulling him out of schools, transferring him, held him back a few grades, etc so it wasn't totally surprising when things fell apart at Kansas. I will say as a physical talent and skill package he might be the very best I've seen out here on the circuit and that includes guys like Bagley, Ball, Shaq's kid and a bunch of others.
