Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He sucks, but the miss is likely inconsequential. We would have been down 13-10 and kicked a FG instead on the 4th down instead of TD pass. Raiders would have still had the ball with a chance to win if we didn’t get a drive going.

This.

Obviously we want these guys to make all their field goals, but Priefer is 100% kicking a game tying field goal in that scenario instead of going for it if the Browns are only down 3.

Being down 6 instead of 3 forced the Browns to be appropriately aggressive.

You're probably right, and I absolutely hate what that says about our philosophy, both offensive and overall.

The coaching tonight especially killed me because Priefer isn't the actual head coach!

If he fucks things up by being wildly too aggressive, who cares?! It's not like he's going to catch any heat anyway because first thing tomorrow morning he's back to being the nameless, faceless, anti-gay coordinator he's always been.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't McLaughlin's issues start when the holder switched from Gillan to Colquitt? Kickers are a finicky bunch and that's enough to throw a guy off mentally. I'd cut McLaughlin and re-sign him to the practice squad, as he looked fantastic to start the year. Maybe he can get his issues ironed out still, but we have too much riding on these games to roll with an unreliable kicker.

After his start this year-especially after he boomed a 57 yarder vs Chicago, I thought he would be our guy for the duration. I'm not sure if it's his inability to adapt to the colder weather, if he just sucks, or what. Either way, it's likely time to move on.

I've read placekickers are supposedly as inconsistent year to year as relief pitchers so it wouldn't surprise me if our computers say don't pay for kicking. That being said, hello Justin Tucker. Obviously real talent can be found.

This was only Colquitt’s second game. McLaughlin has been garbage since early November

Computers are wrong on kickers

The ravens are at LEAST 2 games better and we are probably 1-2 games worse than if we traded kickers. Tucker making 3.5 million is a fucking joke. Some team needs to pay him what he ACTUALLY deserves as a franchise changing player and that is 10M.

Are you really going to tell me Austin fucking Hooper is worth more than Tucker?

But as usual people would rather lose conventionally than be unconventional

One thing that has remained a constant for years is that the best teams have good kickers. Always. Every single year, all the best teams have good kickers. And those kickers win them multiple games every season. It's a major factor and I agree it is grossly overlooked. History tells us you basically are not a good team without a good kicker. Replace Vinatieri and Gostkowski with a replacement level kicker and the Patriots don't win half as many Super Bowls. It's a really important position.

No...his problems surfaced long before the Hammer got Covid.

The Buffalo Mafia agrees that kickers are important.

The Oakland Raiders drafted Ray Guy in the first round which was unprecedented for a punter. He made the HoF - first punter.

They also drafted Sebastian Janikowski in the first round.

Funny that “football” places minor emphasis on the dudes who actually kick the ball. The game should really be called “throw ball” or “run ball” as what we call soccer better fits the name “football”.
