So if it's not an Indians press release it's irrelevant, got it.

Still waiting on an answer on Sambo, but not expecting a good one.

No you just melted down over the monstrocity of the cartoon in the first place.

Yep, I'm melted. I can only be saved by the power of social justice via proper media representation for minorities!

There is nothing worse on this entire planet than Chief Wahoo and he should be exterminated. Natives everywhere will dance in the streets. Schools will be cancelled. A day that will be celebrated for the rest of time.

Good point, the only instance where something is worthwhile is if it's the most important thing in the world.

It's relevant, kind sir, because just as they were once wiped out (sorta like the Jews if you actually believe what they tell you about WWII) they are trying to wipe out any remnants of the culture in this Western world. This isn't about racism in the scope of everyday public life. It's more about money and what I like to call white-washing.

Only instead of a Road Warrior he's a Social Justice Warrior and therefore even cooler.

If a BLM member writes a racist cartoon about white babies with the New Orleans Baby Cakes mascot does that make the team racist for using a white baby as the mascot?

Not that I disagree with anything you've said, but lol, no, if anything your side are the social justice warriors.

Yeah, that's what my joke was.

I'm not accusing anyone pro-Wahoo of being an SJW. :chuckle:

There are accounts that state the Plain Dealer had a hand in naming the team. The fucking Cavs got their name from a Plain Dealer contest. Quit acting like the town paper is completely unrelated to the team.

Besides, the clipping above shows the general attitude toward natives at the time of the naming.

Oh, I guess I missed that reference or something then.

How isn't the logo racist?
If you were handed crayons in your safe space room, and you were told to color a picture of an Indian what color would you use?

I have yet to find a Negro Black, however. I always thought it was funny that negro in spanish is black in english.

Yo I would fuckin' love to take the A's identity off their hands. They have some of the most beautiful jerseys in all of sports. It's kinda sad that soon they'll be the last vestige of competition left in Oakland.

I know that for some people, there will never be a name suitable to replace Indians. For me, I've had a tough time hopping on board with most ideas even though I'm in favor of changing the name.

One that might work is Industrials. Bit long but we wouldn't need to change colors or even lose the script with the iconic "I," which I personally love. It's a name that isn't too hokey but also represents the roots of the city, paying homage to our blue collar attitude. The logo could include imagery of smokestacks or gears or maybe some fire (just not men in hardhats like the old Crew logo). It's not perfect, but it feels like a better identity than Spiders IMO, which is only really an option based on historical context.

I was also thinking the A's would be sweet to take. Something embedded within the fabric of baseball that just won't be a team name again. Red Sox, White Sox, A's, Dodgers, Mets, etc. I like them all, assuming no sox have issues with color identification. :chuckle:

The thing about the name of the team is it's right along the path being blazed by the anti-wahoo folks. Remove the Chief & the next battle will be the name. I'm not suggesting it should or shouldn't be changed. I'm just pointing out that it's the next inevitable battle for those with enough time to protest for Natives.

Glad they're taking steps to phase out the obviously racist logo.

Long past time, kudos to the MLB and Indians front office.

It's been gradual for several years now. Maybe a bit accelerated this season, but I'm not sure they ever intended to remove the logo completely until Manfred stepped-in.

This thread comes back alive every-time someone pens an opinion. That's all.
