Actually the worst case scenario that I can see is Kizer gets in there and plays just ok. We don't know if he's the guy but we don't know if he's NOT the guy. So we end up passing on a legit franchise QB because we think we MIGHT have one already.
Hence the quotations around the
worst. I agree with you. If he comes in and plays 4 games and throws for 900 yards, 5 TD/4 INT, 1 rush TD, 3 FUMB. 100 rush yds. - that is mediocre/ehh.
Comparison? That is basically Blake Bortles numbers. Will he make us better than we have been in the shorter term? Yes. Will he put us in the direction we need to go? No.
Hopefully in his playing time he shows some poise in the pocket, accuracy on deep throws, quick release on short routes, vision and patience when the need to scramble is available, etc. We aren't asking him to come in and go 4-0 or 5-0. But if he can win a couple games. Shit, even keep us in every single game no matter if we win or lose, then he has shown the promise to not draft a QB next year.
But it will be hard to not draft one of Darnold, Rosen or Allen, or even Falk if Kizer has a mediocre year/struggles and they all have dominant seasons.
We don't know what is going to happen with Kirk Cousins, but if he goes to the 49ers via trade or FA, the only teams that will probably draft a QB are Jets, Chargers (Rivers replacement in a couple years), Jags (if Bortles doesn't step up his game), Redskins (see: Cousins leaving). No idea if anyone else? The only team I see doing worse than us on that list are the Jets.
Raise your coffee mugs to hoping Kizer shows us some shit this year so we can draft Derwin James & Guice in the 1st (that would be fucking unreal)
