Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Excellent trade for the Browns.

Hyde was pretty much the least effective running back in the league that was actually getting carries. Glad Dorsey pulled the trigger.

A 5th....okay, if it gets Duke and Chubb more touches, so be it.

Hyde was playing too well for only a 5th round pick, IMO. His YPC have been negatively impacted by our vanilla game plans.

While I like that it gives Chubb and Johnson more opportunities, still think we could've gotten more.

Hyde does have the third most carries in the league (behind Zeke and Gurley)... And I'll let you guess where his yardage stacks up against the other backs in the top 10.

Spoiler: He's 42nd out of 47 eligible backs in YPA.

Would have made sense if we had traded Hyde for one of their Wide Receivers. They have pretty good depth with Westbrook, Cole and Moncrief, plus their 2nd round pick this year Chark.

Hyde was bad in pass protection, offers nothing as a pass catcher and showed very little burst most of the year.

Factor in one of the best pass catching backs in the NFL behind him and a fresh legged rookie averaging 11 YPC behind the same OL.

No brainer.

I mean, it makes sense, but I'll never understand why the Browns hate having quality depth. It's like the minute they actually have NFL caliber depth at a position they can't wait to offload it for draft picks.

Can't wait for Chubb to inevitably get hurt and we're stuck starting Dontrell Hilliard or Matthew Dayes.

-Chubb and Duke both better play style fits next to Baker than Hyde
-one of the three had to be the odd man out next year regardless
-signed a non star and converted him into a 5th rd pick 6 games later
-Dorsey has good history w/ 4th and 5th rounds
-added to huge draft capital for trading up at multiple points in draft or trading for star player prior to draft as we did with Landry and Randall. Hopefully, we aim even higher this offseason

The case could be made that Hyde was the opposite of quality depth with as ineffective as he was this year.

This also opens up the Duke Johnson plays for the rest of the season. Browns found themselves deep at a position of strength with weaknesses elsewhere. It's not a rip on Hyde to trade him away, he was functionable in his role. That's why Jacksonville wanted him. Browns let the bridge veteran go for an asset. Nothing wrong with that.
