Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
The offense needs to be better. They were ready to roll over and die in the third quarter until Myles morphed into Lebron and carried this team. Myles is a great player but I don't expect that to happen every game

I think Haley needs to me more creative to get the ball into our playmakers hands. We saw a quick slant to Njoku which he dropped when you have sure handed receivers like Duke, Gordon, and Landry on the roster. The inside handoff to Landry was also puzzling, I would think you would use Njoku in that situation with his size.

I also didn't like how Duke is basically just a 3rd down back now. Hyde is a upgrade over Crowell as a lead back but I'd like to see more two back sets. Hyde is a very good blocker. Duke and Hyde can flex in and out of the back field.

Hope Devalve gets worked into the offense more. Having both him and Njoku in at the same time creates mismatches. Just like two back sets of Hyde and Duke would also create mismatches. Defense are set up to handle the vanilla stuff we were throwing out there yesterday.

Browns and the 50-50 penalties called. That's a stat I would like to see.

This call resulted in me turning off the game. It was very easily a non call. Then once the announcers tried to protect the refs I hit the off button.

Never forget. :chuckle:

Remember. The Browns have to prove themselves before they get fair calls from the refs. :chuckle:

Agree.

But this T came down to so many factors. Two things that I noticed offensively (besides the overall bad play calling) both came from a bad Tyrod throw:

1. The dink he put up to Njoku where the Steelers CB ran over and swatted it. There was no one behind him. TD.

2. When Gordon beat his man down the side. NO one in front of him. Easy TD. He under threw him.

Now, this can be faulted to the weather. But Ben sure rocketed the ball down the field when he massively overthrew his WR when Randall got that INT. (different side of field? Had wind behind him? Not sure).

But those were 2 plays that were surefire TD's that were 2 bad thrown balls.

But yes, we need to get Duke more involved. We are about to play the RB that Haley needs to plan plays for Duke like the Saints do for Kamara.

After the Saints DEF horrendous play. Playing in a dome. Coming off an underwhelming offensive performance. If we don't come off firing - I am worried about our OFF.

I know he's hurt, but are we expected to get much from EJ Gaines when he returns? TJ Carrie already seems like a lost cause after a bad camp and 1 snap in the opener.

I hate to be negative, but I wouldn't say we "competed" with Pittsburgh. The defense got turnovers at the perfect time, and the offense did very little with them. We can't rely on our defense to get six turnovers a game just to stay alive. If even one of those six turnovers don't occur, then we almost certainly lose.

The offense was given all the opportunity in the world and then some. The only real positive to take away from this game is the defense showed up big on big plays. But like I said, it is absurd to think they are going to do this each week. At some point the offense has to put together 70+ yard drives and score points.

Lots of calls to be more creative on offense.....ok, fine....but an OC is limited when he has a QB who just doesn't see the field.

Tyrod is fine as a 1 read QB but if he has to come off it, he's slo mo on his progressions. He had plenty of time to throw in week 1 and a majority of his sacks look really bad on the All-22.

Certainly there were a few where he was not at fault but most were just him failing to get off his initial read, taking off too early or some combination.

I'd imagine TT had a really rough film session on Monday. Plenty of plays to be made but the QB has to get through his progressions or we are doomed offensively IMO.

I watch Red Zone most Sundays and it's incredible to see these awesome, complex, fun offenses other teams are running, and then watching the Browns run the most boring, vanilla shit offense you've ever seen.

Now, I will admit that the weather may have played a role in the game play yesterday, so I'm willing to give it one more week to see if things change at all. I don't expect them to, though, because our coaches were idiots last year and I fully expect them to continue to be idiots this year.

I get all the hate Hue is getting, the last two years have been embarrassing and much of it is his fault. But your comment on other teams offenses leads me to question how ours can look so boring when we just hired the OC away from the Steelers who had orchestrated one of the top offenses in the league the last several years.

From what I can see, its not a lack of creative playcalling, though I'm sure the weather did limit things a bit Sunday, its a lack of QB talent. I really hope what we saw on Sunday is not the Tyrod we are going to see all season. He looked absolutely clueless. He was timid and painfully inaccurate.

I don't think Haley's scheme or playcalling can be considered any kind of problem when they seemed damn near unstoppable in Pittsburgh. Tyrod held the offense back on Sunday. I'll allow him a one week reprieve based on terrible weather, but he better do a 180 on Sunday in a dome.

Haley knew what he was getting in Tyrod though. Seems like a bunch of excuses made for Haley. He should’ve made his offense fit around Tyrod skill set. Isn’t that what the greats do? Haley play calling has been horrible since preseason. Mind boggling.

All the talk before the season started was how Haley offense was catered to getting the ball in the playmaker hands and we’ve yet to see that, but once to a quick slant to Callaway.

Where are the screens, bubble screens, slants? Where are the quick routes where the receiver maybe able to do something with the ball?

Is Baker going to make Haley call a better game?

Ya you’re right we only tied them 21-21 that is the opposite of competing we suck.

I'm sorry, but this doesn't make any sense whatsoever. I'm not even a Browns fan, and I feel like I need to chime in here.

It doesn't count as competing because the offense sucked while the defense stood out? So, if the game ended in a 48-48 tie you'd say they competed?

No, you can't expect 6 takeaways a game, but I also don't think you can expect Tyrod to complete less than 40% of his passes each week either.
