Cleveland Browns 2018 Season Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I am going to wait at least 3-4 games to make a judgement on this team. There were some positives to take from that game but the weather just created an excuse to argue over the team's strengths or weaknesses, depending on sentiment.

The one positive I will take is that this is the most active I've seen RCF's Browns section in quite some time. If nothing else, we are all equally nuts for being this dedicated to this team for so long and for that, I commend you all.

I don’t know when the expectation became that we are a GOOD team.

Can we be realistic and looks for progress from one of the youngest teams in the league?

You talk about the next step forward but you literally jumped up 50 steps to the top of the staircase and tried to cut out everything in between.

This. Is. Not. A. Thing.

The expectations shifted when Dorsey got rid of 35 players and brought in a QB with a career QB rating over 90 and a winning record as a starter and replaced the literally non-existent OC with an OC that has been in the playoffs six times and gone to a Super Bowl as a play caller.

I'll say it again, what the Browns did in 2016 and 2017 is complete irrelevant to the 2018 version of the team. The personnel is completely different.

Does Tyrod Taylor need to learn how to win football games?

Give me a friggin break.

I hate to be negative, but I wouldn't say we "competed" with Pittsburgh. The defense got turnovers at the perfect time, and the offense did very little with them. We can't rely on our defense to get six turnovers a game just to stay alive. If even one of those six turnovers don't occur, then we almost certainly lose.

Try it this way:

On a day with incredibly crappy weather, the veteran team playing on the road with a HOF QB played more aggressively, and threw the ball more downfield despite the dicey weather conditions. The somewhat predictable result was a lot more successful plays, but also a lot more turnovers.

The young team playing at home decided to play more cautiously. As a result, their offense was more predictable and didn't move the ball as well, but also didn't make as many turnovers. That too was somewhat predictable given their approach to the game.

We did compete, but had different approaches to dealing with the weather that manifested themselves both in terms of the ability of the offenses to move the ball, and the likelihood of turnovers.

The team overall and more specifically the key defensive playmakers as well as some on offense are still VERY YOUNG.

Tyrod Taylor is what he is. We know what he is.

Why all of a sudden are we expected to go 12-4 and win the division?

Why is 7-8-1 such a bad thing with a bridge QB

I agree. We did hire a new OC, we brought in a new LT, new WR, new RB, New QB, & Gordon missed all of the preseason. I like most people hoped we would come out firing on all cylinders, it was game 1, in horrible conditions. If we still look this bad in a few weeks, then there is cause for concern.

It may not be as important in football as it is basketball, but experience and team cohesion are still very important. This team is the youngest and has probably had the biggest one year turnover of the league (maybe in years?). I don't like Lue, or I mean Hue either and feel he holds the team back. I'm not real big on Tyrod either, but I'll give it a few weeks to let these guys get some synergy together before I'm going to make any real judgments on the team.

As far as the first game? Hell yea I take the tie. Both teams played like shit but I think that had something to do with the weather, no?

You're missing the point.

No one is suggesting that the Browns are a 12 win team.

The point is whatever amount of wins they might earn this year is already going to be 1 less than it should be because they blew the chance to win in week 1. That is a frustrating thing.

I get it, however there’s going to be these growing pains with a younger team.

And I understand people want to lambaste Hue for the loss because that’s what Browns fans know but...

Come on.

Save it.

NFL teams not named the Browns have won NINETY EIGHT PERCENT OF THE TIME (130-2) in the last 20 years with a +5 turnover margin.

The Browns didn't lose this weekend because they were too young. They didn't lose because of some abstract concept of "growing pains". They have a 29 year old starting QB that's been to the playoffs and has 59 career games under his belt for goodness sake.

They lost because said QB played like shit and their coaches are not capable of putting the players in a position to succeed on either side of the ball. The Steelers literally did everything possible to give the Browns the friggin game and they still couldn't take advantage of it.

Guess we’ll find out moving forward because I’m not buying it after one single game.

Think it’s typical of this fan base to freak out and find out who they want to blame even with the smallest sample size you can ask for.

I don't think anyone is saying we are going 2-13-1 because of how we played this game. But we have every right to be a bit irritated and criticize some things.

I think it is very difficult to say the Browns put together a good game of football. The defense stepped up and made plays, but the offense left much to be desired. They were sloppy at times and committed some costly penalties. That isn't a good game.

Just because we are pointing out they played bad Sunday, that doesn't mean we are saying the sky is falling.

I don't understand how this team has all of the same issues as last year. Silly penalties, non-existent passing offense, poor clock management, waiting way too long to establish the run, not utilizing weapons like Duke in open space, "Angel" safeties... the list goes on and on.

I really don't see a difference between Hue and Haley's playcalling either.

Over/under on Hue making it past the bye week?
