Cleveland Browns Quarterback Position

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Again, this could be THE draft class that defines our franchise moving forward.

Kizer - Njoku
Garrett - Peppers

Of course everyone still needs to prove themselves on Sundays, but it appears that they are all developing nicely under this coaching staff. Kizer in particular seems to be on a tremendous learning curve in comparison to the complexities of his position. I had no idea he was this good mentally.

Every draft class defines the franchise moving forward.

All the tools are there: big guy with a great arm, elite athleticism, and a lot going on between the ears.

Even if we still suck this year, if by the end of the season Kizer looks like an actual NFL caliber QB, Hue gets an A+ in my book.

100% agree.

But because he never audibled or called plays in the huddle or even played under center, I rather give him a few games to start the season on the side line learning to read defenses from there and what to audible to. The QB coach should be able to do this from the side lines imo.

But I expect him to progress pretty fast as he is much, much further along than i ever expected personally.

Alright, I'll be the guy to say it

I've heard this same exact thing about at least 3 other draft classes (the ones where we had 2 first round picks).

I'm excited to see what these kiddos do on the field, but I think we all need to slow down on crowning their asses. All the guys you listed are, for now, just names. Now I will admit that Weeden and Manziel were total no brainer horrible picks but there were a lot of people very excited about Gilbert, Trent, even Cam Erving had his supporters (well also to mention a lot of people thought Manziel had talent).

I've just heard this too many times. Every time we have a draft with more than 8 picks it comes out. And I guess technically it's true because if a handful of them hit then its franchise altering, but it's just every time this gets stated

Before someone calls me negative Nancy I do believe we are headed in the right direction and I like the guys in place (draft meltdown excluded). There were 2 picks in this draft I absolutely hated and I think people are way too ahead of themselves on Peppers especially (not an OSU fan so don't pull that lame retort).

I agree here, but also think that in this instance it feels a little different? The Shelton/Erving thing I don't think folks said was a franchise changer, but obviously, the Manziel/Gilbert and Weeden/Richardson one people said that.

With that said, my point is that there were a LOT of skeptics following those class. Mainly with Johnny and Weeden.

There are skeptics now, but there is a different vibe I feel with this class.

Well, there is something to the "this could be the class" mantra. Notably, a QB who has the chance to be your permanent starter will always give you that chance.

If they hit on Kizer and they go into the next class with just having to get parts, they could do some serious damage. Especially with the RBs coming out.

So I will speak for myself only.

Hated the Manziel pick from day one, wanted no part of him, was excited about Gilbert, but didnt know allot about him. Wasnt a fan of the draft mainly because of how much I hated Manziel.

Shelton/Erving. Loved the Shelton pick, and i think this is the year he steps up to a good if not great level. Hated the Erving pick, kind of surprised he hasnt been cut yet.

Weeden/richardson. Wasnt a huge fan of Weeden, but didnt hate. I was willing to give him a chance. Thought he had a chance to be decent. Richardson thought was a waste, never a fan of high RB's, especially if they do not have elite breakaway speed.

So none of the drafts to me were great at the top, the all had holes.

Now this draft

Garrett/Peppers/Njoku/Kizer I threw Kizer in there because he was a late first round qb talent that dropped. Love Garrett, really enough said. Once Williams became our DC, Peppers was a target for me. Without Williams I didnt want, but if we are building something, we need to build to the schemes. Njoku was ok to me, his athletic ability is off the charts, but wont help year 1 imo, but also think he needs to learn better routes and better hands, he is the biggest question mark of the draft to me. And then Kizer. I didnt like Kizer mainly because he didnt win at ND, and I question that, but late 2nd the value was huge. So far I have been pleasantly suprised. The arm is much more talented than i thought, the intelect is high, but it was a very good value pick for sure.

My point is this does feel different, we should come away with 2-4 studs. Not all 4 will work out most likely, but if we even get 2 or 3, that is solid draft maneuvering and drafting.

and then...............

Bit misleading though.

I would expect with Kizer's arm talent and skill to shine in 11 on 11 in practice. No audibles or huddles and the rush is not live.

The reason we should most likely start with Brock is to give Kizer a few more weeks to learn audibles and play calling with the coaching staff.

I think Axelrod is missing the point of starting brock for a bit. No one thinks Brock is the future, but he does give the team the best chance for a few weeks and allows Kizer to continue growing.

That said, we have 2 weeks of Kizer to see how fast he is learning and i am excited to see where he is at.

I understand, completely misleading. But funny how everyone was bitching about Brock overthrowing, and after 3 Kizer TD strikes, first by Brock is an overthrow.

Oh hilarious. But the last comment by him was uncalled for.

If Brock was good he would be the future. He has almost 2 years experience starting, strong arm, tall, etc. He just sucks, lol.

The reason me and many others have changed their tune almost to the point of man crushing is because what Kizer is capable of doing in 11 on 11 drills or limited pre-season action.

That said arm talent and accuracy is probably 70% of what is needed of a good qb, its the other 30% Kizer needs to learn. Still a very important 30%, but very encouraging so far on Kizer for sure.
