I'm generally of the opinion that if you are "ruined" by playing too early after being a 4 year starter in college surrounded by a team that has invested heavily in their offensive line, with 2 pro bowl receivers, and one of the best receiving backs in the NFL then you probably were never worth the #1 overall pick in the first place
This isn't a Tim Couch situation. I get starting Taylor, but not sure why we would treat Mayfield as we would have Darnold here. He was either the most or second most pro ready QB in the draft.
Goff should not have started year 1 at all.
Each situation is different. Saying a guy should start because he was the #1 pick has no bearing. You do what is best for the development of the player.
