Cleveland Development Thread

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
All cities are facing empty offices, Cleveland luckily is leading the way in converting into housing. Unfortunately a lot of our top companies are either in the suburbs or have a work from home policy. Sherwin-Williams new HQ and their most likely second phase will help somewhat. The city either needs to attract some larger companies to the city or needs to focus on what is here and give them the tools to continue to grow.

The Sohio Building recently sold to a firm out of New York for $65M (I think the parking section is not included). Cost $200M build back in the 1980s. Hope they can find some larger tenants.

200 Public Square (Huntington/Sohio) have a Fortune 500 in Cleveland-Cliffs at the moment. Cleveland-Cliffs were the leaders in trying to buy US Steel. If the sale would have went through, there were rumors CC would have built an office tower. Maybe CC will expand and take up more room now in that building.

Edit: original post was a mess. @Sumac13 if you would like to reread it now.

My dad worked his whole life here. I wonder what they are going to do with this space. I can't read the article, so I don't know if they list specifics. It'll be weird to see that spot if they just tear it down.

Cleveland Metroparks is possibly the most well run organization in Northeast Ohio. The property is in good hands.

Article is behind a pay wall, but Director of Communications at Cleveland Metroparks Jacqueline Gerling is quoted in the article as saying,

We’re elated to announce that Cleveland Metroparks will be using our newly acquired building to house the world’s first state of the art independent film studio solely dedicated to the production and filming of Goose Harassment movies.

We’ll be partnering with the folks at Ohio Geese Control to record convincing mock geese snuff films and photo shoots that we will distribute to invasive geese throughout the Cleveland area.

We intend to send the geese, and our residents a message:

We’re committed to do what it takes to eliminate these irritating motherfuckers once and for all.

The nonprofit organization will be called Gander Productions. Their tagline is "What's not good for the goose". The building will include raven and owl aviaries which you can rent for hunting, along with a covered bar and perch overhang at the top of the old mill to view in-flight attacks while drinking craft beers and gastropub entrees.

A follow up post from Neo-Trans, this time looking at ongoing and upcoming develop project in UC area of Cleveland --

Cleveland development: what to look for in 2024 — University Circle

Over the past 10 years the area already looks much different. Still plenty of room for more development. They need to tie in public transportation into it as much as they can, too. I didn't realize CaseWestern is growing that much in terms of enrollment.

What?! You don’t want just cars that not everyone can afford to be the focus of transportation in a city?!

This looks like a cool addition - good to see NASA Glenn spurring job growth in area:

A bit weird to think of Cleveland serving as a hub for space jobs. I believe another UK space firm may also be coming to Cleveland, too. (From article, my missing details -- In October, Ubotica, a Dublin, Ireland-based maker of artificial intelligence software for commercial satellites, announced it would locate its U.S. headquarters next to NASA Glenn.

My great aunt worked for NASA because of NASA Glenn. She eventually transferred to Southern California area - it was hard to be a lesbian in Cleveland back in the 50s and 60s. John Glenn always made sure Cleveland was a part of the space program even if nicer weather areas held the launches. Glad this tradition continues.

One of my grad school classmates was a rugby player with the Pittsburgh Angels. Married but definitely a switch hitter. One of her friends was going to CWRU and rented an upstairs room from a devout Catholic couple in Murray Hill (go figure). Strict rule that she'd be evicted if she had any guys over but she just had girls sleeping over and they didn't figure it out.
