Cleveland Indians 2018-2019 Offseason Outlook

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Martin returning to form will be huge, cause I think he (even though I wouldn’t like it) would slide into the top 3 of the lineup (can see it being Lindor, Martin, Ramirez) as we stand today. And I’m excited to see Bauers. His ABs are going to look a lot like Santana’s, which will piss a lot of opposing pitchers off and a lot of Indians fans as well apparently.

I personally want Allen to get a chance to be an everyday player. His 2nd half last year was impressive, and he’s somewhat following his minor league trends at the MLB level, which excites me.

But I personally would love a Marwin Gonzalez, Josh Harrison/Yangervis Solarte/Derek Dietrich, Oliver Perez, Cody Allen finish to the winter.

SS - Lindor
LF - Gonzalez
3B - Ramirez
1B - Santana
DH - Bauers
2B - Kipnis
CF - Martin
RF - Allen
C - Perez/Plawecki

I’d be good with that lineup. Top 4 are all switch hitters. Puts them in position to be flexible to go after someone at the deadline based on production from Bauers, Kipnis, and Allen.

Gonzalez has some legs, based on some things I’ve heard. He’s a Tito wetdream with his position flexibility. Market is dropping him towards the Indians level as well.

I don't think anyone can honestly disagree with anything you said here at all. I said from the get go Marwin is our off season target. so if we get him we had probably the best free agency one could expect.

I though disagree with the lineup. Marwin has a career .314 OBP% and 37 career SB. He is not a good base stealer even though I think his speed is a bit better than his SB total would state. I actually think he would hit 5th or 6th in the lineup if he was signed. Martin also is likely to only be platooned with in the OF since he cannot seem to hit lefties well, so I actually kind of want Allen to be full time in CF, with Martin as the platoon in a LF/RF situation with Luplow. I wouldn't even be afraid to hit Allen second in the lineup if he has a good spring especially if he learns how to take some pitches and puts down good bunts. .379 OBP% in the second half of the season for him last year. He is one of the guys who has to step up this season if we really are going to make a title run.

Do you see a situation of Kipnis being in the OF (LF or RF) while Marwin is at 3B? Also where do you see Chang being if he can have a good spring? I mean it is quite probable Naquin may not make the roster if he gets outplayed by Luplow, Allen etc and we decide to have Kipnis in the OF.

Though I hope we don't decide between Freeman, Stamets and Moroff as the backup utility infielder on the roster. I have no faith in any of those three ever to hit in the pros.

Coach, when you say Freeman, to whom are you referring? Not Tyler Freeman, right?

Edit: I see there’s an NRI Freeman. Hasn’t had an MLB at bat since 2017.

Also, given Martin’s defensive prowess, you can’t justify having him anywhere but CF.

Did anyone cover that Bauer was bullying a college girl and that he got cucked by Alex Bregman on social media again?

That was my point about our utility infielder on the bench. None of them will ever hit above the Mendoza line in MLB, so it would be nice to get a better guy for that. Also how much of a difference would there be between Allen and Martin in the OF when it comes to defense? Allen has always played center in the minors while Martin has always been a CF as well. Reason why I was saying Allen in CF is because he is likely to be our future in CF (depending on Zimmer) while Martin likely won’t be back after 2019.

Big difference. Allen is still developing while Martin is one of the best in the league.

While range .. experience etc is important .. who has the better arm

Just don't have much interest in the Padres if Tatis, Gore, and Urias are off the table. Margot in not an upgrade in the OF. Renfroe I would be interested in but a guy hovering at .300 OBP should be no where near the headliner in a Corey Kluber trade. He's basically Adam Duvall.

Story I read on ESPN regarding remaining FA predictions has the Tribe getting Ryan Madson and Adam Jones.

Yippie.
