Martin returning to form will be huge, cause I think he (even though I wouldn’t like it) would slide into the top 3 of the lineup (can see it being Lindor, Martin, Ramirez) as we stand today. And I’m excited to see Bauers. His ABs are going to look a lot like Santana’s, which will piss a lot of opposing pitchers off and a lot of Indians fans as well apparently.
I personally want Allen to get a chance to be an everyday player. His 2nd half last year was impressive, and he’s somewhat following his minor league trends at the MLB level, which excites me.
But I personally would love a Marwin Gonzalez, Josh Harrison/Yangervis Solarte/Derek Dietrich, Oliver Perez, Cody Allen finish to the winter.
SS - Lindor
LF - Gonzalez
3B - Ramirez
1B - Santana
DH - Bauers
2B - Kipnis
CF - Martin
RF - Allen
C - Perez/Plawecki
I’d be good with that lineup. Top 4 are all switch hitters. Puts them in position to be flexible to go after someone at the deadline based on production from Bauers, Kipnis, and Allen.
Gonzalez has some legs, based on some things I’ve heard. He’s a Tito wetdream with his position flexibility. Market is dropping him towards the Indians level as well.
I don't think anyone can honestly disagree with anything you said here at all. I said from the get go Marwin is our off season target. so if we get him we had probably the best free agency one could expect.
I though disagree with the lineup. Marwin has a career .314 OBP% and 37 career SB. He is not a good base stealer even though I think his speed is a bit better than his SB total would state. I actually think he would hit 5th or 6th in the lineup if he was signed. Martin also is likely to only be platooned with in the OF since he cannot seem to hit lefties well, so I actually kind of want Allen to be full time in CF, with Martin as the platoon in a LF/RF situation with Luplow. I wouldn't even be afraid to hit Allen second in the lineup if he has a good spring especially if he learns how to take some pitches and puts down good bunts. .379 OBP% in the second half of the season for him last year. He is one of the guys who has to step up this season if we really are going to make a title run.
Do you see a situation of Kipnis being in the OF (LF or RF) while Marwin is at 3B? Also where do you see Chang being if he can have a good spring? I mean it is quite probable Naquin may not make the roster if he gets outplayed by Luplow, Allen etc and we decide to have Kipnis in the OF.
Though I hope we don't decide between Freeman, Stamets and Moroff as the backup utility infielder on the roster. I have no faith in any of those three ever to hit in the pros.
