Cleveland Indians 2018-2019 Offseason Outlook

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
He had better results, but his control was still all over the place, and his velocity continues to trend downwards.

I think there are better options out there that won't require major league deals.

I also think he got paid a little much since he got some incentives with that as well. He isn't a gamble I would want to try and put that type of money on when our budget is so limited.

One player I could see the Indians still landing in free agency is Josh Harrison. Granted, he's coming off of a subpar season with a measly 80 OPS+ and .293 OBP, but he was an All Star in 2017 and can play all over the diamond. He's also a right handed stick, which this lineup desperately needs more of right now. Neil Walker just signed with the Marlins for 1 year at $2 million, which *should* put him in the Tribe's price range since he's a comparable player to Harrison.

I cannot say this wouldn't be a smart move. With his bat I would trust him more than Moroff and Stamets. He is not as strong defensively as either of those two, but in no way do I ever trust their bats in our lineup lol

Feels like a team that's one long term injury to a starting pitcher away from a play in game at the end of September.

Arenado, just signed for 29 mil in arbitration, which is not good for us when it comes to Lindor since you can argue they are in the same league in a sense, so it's going to be really really hard to keep Lindor at this rate cause of things like this.

Lindor will ask for 30 mill. Indians will come in at 9 mill

It will probably be 30 and 15 but yeah, pretty much it will be very hard for a small market team to match the 29 mil if Lindor ends up asking for something close to it. Baseball needs to change something cause this is kind of getting bad overall. Small market teams have 100 mil to play with and when one gets a superstar/franchise player, they have to spend 1/3 of it on them or trade them when arbitration kicks in.

29 Million?

There's just no chance in hell regarding Lindor. Indians will be celebrating that 2016 season every year in different promotions to get fans out at the park when they're in rebuild mode. Come get your throwback Rajai Davis HR Bobblehead!!

Life isn't fair in this sport.

I hope fans bring out strong support this season and next, who knows, but it could go a long way.

From Mandy Bell:

"Since the beginning of the offseason, the Indians have had the goal of getting their finances in order. They were successfully able to do so by trading Edwin Encarnacion, Yonder Alonso, Yan Gomes, Yandy Diaz and Erik Gonzalez. Will this leave enough room to sign someone like Adam Jones? My guess is no. Considering Cleveland's two most recent additions signed for $2.5 million (Perez) and $1.1 million (Kevin Plawecki) for 2019, I don't see Jones signing a deal in that price range. The veteran outfielder will end up getting much more than the Indians would be willing to spend, which is why Antonetti has said that the club's focus is now mostly on non-roster players."

The Fox Sports Ohio contract ends in 2023. The same year Lindor is a free agent. The money will be there if they want to spend 40% of the payroll on one player.
