Cleveland Indians 2018-2019 Offseason Outlook

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If they think the stuff plays up out of the pen, I think he could be a good addition.

The slider and changeup both seem to be plus pitches for him.

article on Turner

Seems like he is an interesting baseball player, but a 27th round pick

Here is some info for peeps on Chih-Wei Hu

It seems like to me, the Indians really risked nothing for this move since Turner is a very raw baseball player who is an athlete with potential. For the fact we are trying to win now, this is a no risk move. It helps also our last couple draft classes and international free agent signings seem to be very deep and doing well.

Great find, man. His slider looked filthy on the strikeout pitches to both Stanton and Gregorius.

That's actually his changeup, I think.

It's a wicked looking pitch. Reminds me a bit of Fernando Rodney with that pitch, which really tails and just comes in with some late, harder break.

You get the fastball to play back up to 94-95 coming out of the bullpen, and you could have yourself something there.

Paxton to the Yankees for Sheffield + prospects

Yankees are pretty left handed heavy at SP, along with Boston

Pretty underwhelming return for Seattle outside of Sheffield, as it included the Yankees 22nd ranked prospect and a player that fell outside of their top 30 prospects but hit a combined 22 homers in Low A and High A ball. We’ll see what impact this has on Kluber’s trade market.

You’re right. That was his change up or what some may even call a palm ball.

Though if I remember right Seattle does have their own kind of system when it comes to players like the A's did. So certain teams I don't always go exactly with the charts, but seems like Swanson could make the roster next season out of spring training and Thompson-Williams is a breakout candidate, from his numbers before last season, if his improvement wasn't a fluke, he could be a lot better prospect than he was rated.

Either way you are right it doesn't help the Kluber deal, but Cleveland isn't going to trade Kluber just to trade him anyways. It is not like we are going to trade Kluber to the highest bidder, it will be to the team that puts up the bid we want, so I am not worried about it at the end of the day

That is highway robbery for New York. Got a guy in paxson who has great stuff in his prime and didn't have to give up any guys in their lineup or bullpen.

I'm sure we wanted Torres or andujar, and the Yankees just weren't going to do that currently.

That's going to be the problem for the indians; finding not only good prospects, but young, mlb experienced players who are ready to make an impact with the club this year.

This has to be a money issue. Gomer had a great year, and we would need to get another catcher, as Perez was terrible behind the plate. I'm starting to think Kluber is gone for sure. They need to shed his 15 million to sign other players.

Not a money issue.

This is all about the opportunity. There's a reason JT Realmuto's market is absolutely MASSIVE-- have you seen what some of these teams are trotting out behind the plate? It's a complete joke.

Seattle got Mallex Smith (a 25 year old 3.4 win CF) for Mike fucking Zunino. By comparison, Michael Brantley was a 3.5 win player last season (via Fangraphs).

I think it's safe to say the Indians could potentially flip Gomes for pretty impressive package.

Oh and Perez is great behind the plate but not at the plate.

That may be true, but it's always about the money with this team; especially this coming year. Trevor Bauer on Twitter said we should consider trading Kluber. He also said he will make 20 million in 2 years and that isn't good for the club, with our limited resources.

We had our highest payroll ever last year and still didn't get 2 million fans. 21st overall. The team has serious money issues and that can't be ignored when talking about movement in the offseason. As I've said many times, the Yankees or sox would never consider moving a Kluber or even Gomes. They just fix their holes in free agency or trade some youth for a player like Paxton like they did today.
