Dahntay Jones is back

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
How many playoff hardened vets does a team need? I just don't buy that narrative. Every player on this team outside of like 2 has been in the league a long time and all made deep playoff runs. Even the new guys like Korver and Deron.

You may think it's dumb. But we don't know what he did for the locker room last year. He is obviously well-respected by the main vets and responded well to playing time in the finals last year. Liggins is the age of a vet but without the experience and respect that Jones has.

Not saying Jones is better but just a better fit. Both are practically unplayable vs the warriors because of offense deficiency. So better have the "been there done that guy" IMHO especially when you're not cutting a guy with a ton of potential.

His discernible NBA talent is that he was the best wing defender on the team. He was the best pg defender on the team. That isn't nothing.

And he couldn't score if the other team let him practice uncontested layups during a live game. Being a good defender doesn't do the team any good if you have to play 4 vs. 5 on offense.

SportVU also doesn't like him as much as you might. His stop % is bottom third on the team (56.3%), his TPPI in isolation is identical to Kyrie's, His PPP is close to Iman's (who most think isn't any good this year). Liggins is also middle of the road on drive defense.

Again, I don't think he's a BAD defender but I also don't think he's the best wing defender on the team. He was a good but not great defender who was afraid to shoot and generally couldn't score late in a game if his life depended on it. I guess I just don't lose any sleep over letting guys like that go.

Yep. I think this is a pure locker Room/Chemistry Move.

Maybe he will remind the Team what it took last year.. and bring just a portion of grit, fight and playing hard that this Team needs to adapt asap.

McMenamin just posted a pic of Jones looking like he is warming up for the game tonight.

Maybe he'll play?

I haven't heard anything about whether or not Tavares will play.

I can't see a reason they shouldn't both play, get em out there for 20 min each or so.

So where's he been all year? I'd he's a locker room magician and Liggins can't play, they were pretty stupid waiting until the very last day to make this change, eh?

See one way or another, the cavs messed up.

Putting words in my mouth. I said Jones is a "been there done that guy" with similar skill set.

I never said Liggins couldn't play. I actually said Jones isn't a better player. He is just a better fit for the cavs right now and people are blowing Liggins potential out of proportion.

Griff took responsibility for not bringing him in sooner.

It's bad luck for us to sign him before the last game. The cavs have never won a championship in a season we didn't sign him for the last game.

Agreed, if they had signed him before the second week of April it would have thrown the entire team out of rhythm.

I like Jones. He plays with an edge is close with lue and Lebron and doesn't get scared inthe bright lights. Unlike James Jones he's not afraid to get in his team mates face. Champ is too polite to do that
