Dahntay Jones is back

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Last year Perkins came in a playoff game for one reason: to lay out Crowder. Hopefully Jones can be that weapon if shit starts to get chippy.

Damon Jones. James Jones. Dahntay Jones.

What a big three we've assembled here in Cleveland.

Hard nose defender, anxious to see him tonight.

I hope we see a lot of this guy in the playoffs cause we are blowing people out

Extremely intelligent defender, although he's not nearly as athletic as his Indiana days. Probably the second smartest perimeter defender on the team besides LeBron.

Definitely much better than Jefferson and James Jones on the wing.

Can hit wide open threes, but we really should not be hoping to see this guy, as only one of the three situations where we would are good:

  1. We are blowing somebody out (good situation)
  2. We are getting blown out
  3. Shumpert is more seriously injured that originally anticipated

The one thing Dahntay Jones has been consistently good about throughout his career is fouling. He's always fouled at an alarming rate for a wing player. Amusing that he fouled out in tonight's game.

McMenamin added this tidbit about the signing:

Jones signed a two-year deal with the Cavs, though next season is non-guaranteed, according to a team source. His contract could become a trade chip in the offseason, as it is worth approximately $2.3 million because of his service in the league as a 10-plus year veteran.

Not really surely how he calculates that $2.3M figure for next season; I guess he means trade value? We had speculated the Cavs would look to add the 15th player with a non-guaranteed contract for next season as ballast in a potential trade. If this $2.3M figure is right, it's a significant figure and could help make trade math work.

Separately, Eric Pincus calculates Jones' salary as $5572. Cavs also have to pay the league the corresponding tax, of course.

I believe Jones will also earn some money (fairly limited amount) for participating in the playoffs. It is significantly more than $5K though.

Windy was on WKNR and said the reason they signed Jones because of the potential worries with Iman Shumpert's knee. He found it telling they didn't bring in Quinn Cook, who had a very good year and is a PG. With Mo hurt and uncertain, they went with a wing defender instead.

Ilike Jones is willingness to get into a perimeter players chest and be aggressive. If shump is banged up hexane fill a defensive need

Is it conceivable we'd have Shump and DJ on the court at the same time? With Lebron and Delly we shoud be able to keep wings at bay, no?

I think in short bursts that is a possibility. We need Kyrie,Love and JR for shooting/Scoring/Spacing.. But if lets say both are on the bench normally rotation wise then that lineup could totally make scoring nearly impossible against us..

Yeah...curious to see how it all works out.

I like that for wing depth we can rotate between RJ and Dahntay depending on what we need and which of them is in better form at that given time. RJ is the better shooter and Dahntay the much better defender.. i like that flexibility.
