Todd Bowles is a good coach.
It's actually amazing how much coaching matters.
McCown is just one veteran and an easy example of what any solid vet would have made. When it became clear the Browns were moving on from Osweiler they should have signed a different vet instead of sticking with 3 inexperienced quarterbacks. Too bad Osweiler looked like a complete waste of time otherwise we could have had our cake and eaten it too.Bowles did an amazing job motivating his entire team. He has been highly regarded for a long time.
If we want to sit back and play the hindsight game, remember the reason McCown didn't return: a top 33 - 40 pick for absorbing Osweiler. If we want to play the hindsight game, it was possible to try to keep McCown and cut Osweiler immediately, but McCown would have to be retained as a free agent when it was obvious the Browns were moving on. After two fairly poor seasons, McCown signed for 6 million guaranteed with New York. Would the fans really be happy with a bidding war for Josh McCown last spring? I would have been furious.
If Bill thought Jimmy was the truth, why not keep him? Brady isn't going to stay young forever. He'll eventually fall of a cliff soon.
Bill probably won’t be coaching much longerMy point is if Bill though he was the next Andrew Luck perceived guaranteed talent, you would move on from a 41 year old Brady and go with this guy.
McCown had his best season this year since he was in Chicago, but it ended exactly how you would expect a McCown season to end...

In those regards, that makes sense. I can’t imagine him not coaching though.

Bill is 65 years old and net worth of 40 million.
At some time he will call it a career, and it will be sooner than later.
