The Cavs' quest for a starting point guard now includes free agent Damon Stoudamire. Aaron Goodwin, Stoudamire's agent, said Friday that he and the Cavs have had conversations about his client. Stoudamire averaged 15.8 points and 5.7 rebounds for Portland last season. Stoudamire was seventh in the league in 3-pointers made (181).

God forbid, if Sarus decides to chase the fatter pay check in Indiana, the Cavaliers do have a very good option in Damon Stoudamire. This guy was my 1st choice at PG before I even heard about Sarus.

I would also think that Damon would come at the same price as we offered Sarus which was 3 years 10 mil. He is a veteran, and a scorer at that. He has the ability to shoot the 3, mabey not as good as Sarus, but he will indeed get some good looks just like Jeff McInnis has in the past.

We haven't really spoken about Damon Stoudamire here, he was mentioned in a couple threads, but how does everyone really feel about him?

Damon would make a decent option. He reminds me of the A. Walker's of point guards. That catch and chuck style is one I despise, which is why I seriously dislike guys like Damon or Walker because they kill chemistry. Sometimes Damon reminds me more of an undersized 2-guard than a point (the Blazers even gave him minutes as the 2-guard because of this). But you gotta do what you gotta do.

Very true. But the Cavaliers are looking for a scoring PG. Someone who is willing to shoot the ball with confidence. This is something that Damon does. The difference between him and AWalker is obviously their positions. We don't want Antoine because he is an offensive minded PF when we are looking for the opposite. But as far as looking for a PG, we are looking for someone who will take that shot when we need him too.

He is also pretty quick for his age, and looks like he has a good amount of hoops left in his body. He may be a decent signing, but I will be happy with him if he came to Cleveland.

I wouldn't be opposed to Damon coming here. He was the rookie of the year among superstars. Everyone says he never lived up to expectations, but he has averaged 14.6ppg and 6.6 apg over his career, 40% from the field, 35% from the arc, a little over a steal a game. I think he did just fine in his career. And, if he signs with us for a smaller amount, which he most likely will, he'll be here to compete. He's looking for the "perfect fit." I wouldn't think that anywhere else would be more perfect for him.

But I'd look at Saras first. Damon should be option #2.

the dude had a 50 point game last season-- (i'm pretty sure he still has some left in the tank)

he's quick-- the one thing i like is the ability to go on a 3 on 1 and pull up at the elbow for a jumper..

we haven't had that in awhile, ofcourse you would like to get you wing (lebron) the ball, but this is another option on the break....

he was on best damn about 2 months ago- and he said point blank cleveland is on his radar .. (mr shaker heights chris rose threw in a good word for the squad)

but he said " WHO WOULDN'T WANT TO PLAY WITH LeBRON" ... WORD FOR WORD..

Damon is in his i want to win mode right now which is why i wouldn't mind him coming here due to him improving our team alot. Damon is getting older and is willing to get paid mle type money and a smaller role(not being the man) if it means he can win.Damon has said he would like to play in cleveland playing next to lebron and now since hughes signed and Z is back he should be alot more interested. Damon would be a good pickup for us because he fits us. We would get a known player that is mainly know as a above average shooter(has his bad days as well as good days like all shooters)

He will fit our team and make our team a running team(we ran alot last yr even with Z and don't expect that to change). Lebron, hughes,Damon are all good in the fullcourt offense and it will be exciting to watch this 3 man show on breaks...

He isn't my first option but i will be happy.

His weaknesses will be hidden in the Cavs as he will have a solid PG ahead of him and Snow and he won't have to worry about being a playmaker as Lebron, Hughes, and even Luke Jackson are capable of being the facilitator. I'm not a fan of his game but in terms of fit, Damon would be great. His game fits our needs almost to a tee

Damon is a decent option to have as a backup plan. He wouldn't be one of my top choices. His lack of size and mediocre defense can be problems. He does have scoring and shooting ability which would help although he can be a selfish gunner at times and not always play like a PG should.

You do have to wonder if this is another case of just an agent talking and trying to build up interest and a bigger contract for his client.

Damon could be a solid fit if the price is right and he's willing to do everything to fit in.

Only as a last resort, that is if we can't sign SJ or AD, would I want Damon on this team. He's not very good defensively, he's a me-first, shoot-first, make a play second point guard, which we need like a hole in the head, and speaking of heads, let's not forget that he's a pot head who so far has managed to stay one step ahead of the posse. Danny will pass on this dude.

Damon would be a good 2nd or 3rd option if the Cavs can't land Sarunas or Antonio Daniels, but Mighty Mouse still has some game. Like someone mentioned earlier, he had a 50 point game, knocking down a ton of 3's, so he's a proven shooter, but only one you would look for to spot up.

He was also 7th in the league last season with 181 made 3 pointers.

Ill take Damon over AD every day of the week..

Ive been on of the few thats wanted him all year, myself Inf and I believe Pioneer have been pushing for him.

He has a very good offensive game and can rotate nicely with Snow. He could come here and play his game and have that freedom.

Id honestly take him over Sauras because he is NBA proven, why risk it?

I haven't ever supported the mighty mouse talk, and I won't start now. Mighty Mouse is a shooting guard with ball handling ability. Some tend to mis label this type of ability as a point guard. However this is not the case.He has decent handles, and plays the point, but he is definately more inclined to shoot, and be selfish than pass the rock, and keep the ball movement crisp. He is nba proven, and he is also an nba proven defensive liability with his lack of height. He's going to be 32 in september.

I would take Sarunas over him. Sarunas is the type of pass first point guard that will thrive with lebron, and Z. Only 2 years separate them, however there's a big difference between 30, and 32, when you're talking a contract commitment. With point guards, the wheels tend to come off quickly.

Mighymouses off the court problems speak for themselves. I doubt Danny Ferry will bring in a Jailblazer, we are looking to build a team on character.

Saunas will cost less than Mightymouse.

When I watched Blazer games on the League Pass, Portland looked a lot better when Telfair was in the game and Damon was on the bench and/or when they ran Telfair-Stoudamire as a super small backcourt (let's face it, Damon is better as a 2 than a pure 1 because as a pure point, he's just not that good). When I think of trading players or picking up players from other teams, I look hard at their styles and think, "Would I want to play with a guy like that?" Guys like Damon would drive me up a wall. If Ferry wants to avoid semi-shady guys, then Damon's not the model citizen (much like Gilchrist) to bring into the fold.

i would take daniels or damon over sarus b/c we dont have time to wait for some1 to develop even if its one year.yea u can say sarus beasted in the olympics but he hasnt played one game in the nba.we need the 3 ball so damon over daniels is nice.we got the perimeter on ball defender in hughes now so take some1 that can shoot better.
