Eh Garland had a solid fourth quarter with 7 points when it mattered (his last three points were off deliberate Orlando fouls in the last minute of play) on 2-4 shooting from the floor, 3 assists, and no TO. Good supporting play but not a star turn. I didn’t see anything from him today that made me think we’ve solved the problem of finding a sidekick for Mitchell.

The biggest thing he needs to do is lose his fear of taking step back 3s when he has the opportunity…

Bad shooting aside, the thing I wad really worried about coming into the stretch was how he would handle double teams and full court press. His navigation of being harassed by one of the leagues best POA defenders and trap defense was what stuck out the most.

Again, not calling him the second coming here. Just saying he played his best today when the chips were down. That is not a sentence often uttered about DG. Hopefully it's something he can build on.

Good 4th, disaster the rest of the game.

I will go to my grave that we need to package Garland/Allen/Wade and try to get a legitimate 3rd piece (wing) to build around Mobley/Mitchell/new player.

Of course we only do that if Mitchell for sure re-signs with us. Otherwise no, we don't just throw Garland away for a 1 year rental.

Hope he's better in the Boston series. If we want to pull the upset he needs to be great.

Jimmy Butler may be available and Miami needs a PG….

Just sayin

That 4th made me feel better about garland but again he’s getting paid a max salary no reason for Mitchell to hold his hand like a baby. I see garland as a top 5 pg in this league but the problem with him is mental strength and that’s not teachable either you have it or you don’t and time is ticking Darius we need you man and we need you agaisnt Boston step the fudge up!!!!!

I'm in his corner even though his play frustrates the hell out of me at times. Donovan seems to have taken him under his wing. I think Darius cares and tries. There's still time for him to discover and unlock his playoff game persona, and strive to meet his potential.

It would be very different if he was indifferent to it, but he's not. You can tell his bad play upsets him. On that 3 he clanked prior to getting a second attempt to help put game 7 away, he let out the loudest groan. You can hear it on the TV camera.

Do you think that deal was available?

It was reported by a couple reporters that the Jazz weren't going to do any deal without Lauri in it. That also takes into account who Koby had off the table. I'm pretty sure that Garland and Mobley were off the table. We don't know if Allen was or not.

If Koby would have included Garland in trade talks, my guess is we wouldn't have had to include Lauri and they probably wouldn't have wanted Sexton. We probably also wouldn't have had to include so many draft picks. Most of the league was pretty high on Garland at that time.

So you're thinking that we'd subtract Markkanen and Sexton and draft picks from that deal, add Garland, and Utah makes the trade? Is that what you are saying?

Yea, I think there would have been salary as filler to make stuff match. I'm not sure how many draft picks is part of that deal but I don't think it's 3 1st picks and 2 swaps. Garland was an pretty untouchable though at that point because he was coming off his all star season and Koby wanted to pair him with Mitchell. That was the peak of his value, especially because he would have still been supermax eligible with a new team because he would have been traded on his rookie contract.

Utah would have been thrilled to come always with a player like Garland was at that point and the potential he was suppose to have.

Have to disagree on this. I have no knowledge, but I just don't see Utah giving us Mitchell for Garland plus fewer picks than we gave with Sexton and Markkanen.
