If Cavaliers move somebody before the season I really think it will be Sexton. But where is the harm in trying them out together for a season? Yeah the defense will be bad. But the offensive upside is tantalizing. And both playing on and off the ball will only raise their value later on. But keep in mind that Darius Garland is a Beilein guy, Sexton was inherited. So the odds of him choosing Sexton over Garland if it comes to that aren't very high in my opinion. Unless Garland completely face plants.
The defense is going to be bad if you take Sexton out and leave Garland in, take Garland out and put Sexton in, or take them both out and put our best defender (Nwaba) on the floor... it'll probably still be bad... because this isn't a good team right now. We are still trying to find an identity and figure out who the franchise player is we're building around.

We just went to four straight Finals and won a title in 2016. It is fine with me if we take our time with this thing and not rush because of the almighty "fit" on a team that'll likely be really bad regardless of the fit.

Love what I have seen out of Garland and it wouldn't surprise me if he were an All-Star level player some day. Sexton worked the hell out of his shot and (stunningly) had one of the best three-point shooting seasons by a teenaged rookie in NBA history.

I love Sexton's work ethic and attitude. I love Garland's incredible natural talent. No need to do anything drastic. Sometimes, you just have to take BPA and let the chips fall where they may.

I was listening to Bill Simmons today (yuck) and he had a hilariously bad take. He compared taking Garland a year after taking Sexton to taking Waiters a year after taking Irving. In actuality, this is the exact opposite of what we did in that draft. We took Waiters because of his perceived fit as a guy who was big enough to play either guard position and fit with Irving. In reality, Dame Lillard came off the board a couple picks later... THAT should have been our pick, which would've been the mindset we took into this draft. Take the BPA and figure it out later.

This was a homerun swing and I'm fine with it.

I love the pick, I also loved the Sexton pick at the time. I am not in favor of trading one of them. But down the line if we move on from one of them I was just saying I think its going to be Sexton. Garland is Beileins guy. Garland is the guy hes betting on for his tenure in Cleveland. As for listening to Bill Simmons I have to ask do you enjoy punishing yourself?

It is definitely a self-hating thing. Then again, I got the heads up from some of his Twitter posts and the general upheaval Boston that his Celtics takes could give me the opportunity for a little schadenfreude. True to form, he generally stayed away from the topic of the Celtics as he usually does during the tough times.

This time last year, he was saying Jaylen Brown was on track to be a better version of Paul George which I always found amazing/hilarious. That comparison doesn't come up much nowadays. Also, there was the time early in the season this past year that he compared Kyrie Irving's leadership skills to Kevin Garnett. Now he is ready to drive him to the airport.

This is sadly how I get my kicks in life. :(

Fair enough man. Nothing wrong with it. I just personally can't stand Simmons and his shenanigans. Cavaliers could do exactly what he thinks they should do and he would have found fault in it though. No matter what Cleveland does he shits on us. Hes just a waste of space. Hes Bostons very own Skip Bayless. Put Skip and Bill in a room and forbid them talking about Celtics or Spurs and they likely have the same outrageous takes about the rest of the NBA teams.

I don't think Garland was a pick for Beilein like Dion was for Byron Scott or Bennett might have been for Mike Brown.

I think the organization had him in their top 4 or 5 and didn't expect him to be there until the Hawks moved up for Hunter. My guess we will never know if they had Hunter or Garland higher but Koby has already said that the gap between Garland and whoever was left was big.

Koby seems to be a GM that takes ownership of making the picks. I don't think he is defering to the coaches. Don't forget that Koby came up working with all the Cavs scouts and going with them scouting all over the country and the world. He was the one who found Cedi and pushed for it.

Hopefully it won't be about favorites but about developing players properly and to make them buy in on the team.

I've listen to Bill Simmons for years. Simmons really liked the Cavs back when it was Kyrie and Dion. I think some of the hate now is more about how they screwed up the Bennett draft more than anything. Grantland really did a great job with their pre-draft coverage of that draft. Bennett was never a player that anyone Simmons or any of their podcast brought in talked about as a potential number 1 pick.

I could see Simmons coming around on the Cavs again if they become a fun team to watch. The Kyrie stuff might have made him even more bitter though. That trade has really changed in perception in the last year.

I don't disagree with you. One thing I will say about Simmons is that he does seem to have a knack for finding talent. He pretty much had autonomy with the Grantland section of ESPN and he personally hired Zach Lowe, Bill Barnwell, Kirk Goldsberry, Remberte Brown, etc. and now he found some pretty decent writers at The Ringer (though a lot of their content I find annoying).

I think Simmons is tolerable as long as he isn't talking about your favorite team and we aren't the only ones that feel like that. He does seem to particularly enjoy take-downs of all things CLE, especially the Cavs, but most fans of other franchises hate him too. The problem is, he tries to have an opinion on every topic, but he probably didn't watch a single Cavs game last year (not that I blame him but if you are going to discuss the team, it is kind of mandatory) and *clearly* knew nothing about Garland.

Outside of the Celtics and maybe the best couple teams in the league, his NBA knowledge is very broad, but has no depth at all. So, for hardcore fans like us who follow the team closely and know all of our guys inside and out, it is intolerable. I just try to tell myself when he is discussing the Cavs these days, he is doing so from a completely uninformed place so it doesn't hold much weight.

Garland is Beeline's guy as I said earlier. Period. I wouldn't be surprised if they don't try and trade for another big guard from the draft to protect him going forward(especially with Porter Jr's flake factor).

He is a key piece of the foundation of the rebuild. Sexton is and will not be going forward. Hopefully things don't get nasty on that side. When I said Colin was acting snarky after Garland, I wasn't joking. He looked rejected.

Thats funny Collin was acting snarky over Garland. But Garland lit up when playing next to Collin got brought up. If they are gonna flip Collin before even getting the chance to play together I really think Garland will be bummed. What big guard could we even trade for from this draft? If we trade for a Big Guard or SF it will likely be one thats been in the league for a year or two who isn't working out with their current team.

Just my opinion but The Ringer, *especially* their NBA coverage, is pretty terrible. Dripping with smarmy takes.

The big difference between the Ringer and Grandland for NBA is Zach Lowe. Zach Lowe was their key guy at Grandland and ESPN kept him on when they closed Grantland.

Kevin O'Connell and the rest of the Ringer's NBA staff are nowhere close to Zach Lowe and the people Lowe could bring in from ESPN to talk with.

But with that said NBA Desktop with Jason Concepcion is something that ESPN and Disney would never allow anywhere close to their networks. It funny, crazy, and dirty all in 5 minute segments that could only live on the internet.

Collin was not upset.

Koby talked to him beforehand. He was even the one that suggested the Lillard and McCollum comparison.

They’re both pumped, actually.

I'm sure they both think they are Dame.

But no shame in being the McCollum in the duo.

Collin started playing off ball more to end the season. I think he knows who McCollum is. He might not be thrilled about it but he knows.

I like Garland’s quiet confidence. Him able to create space, switch speeds, nasty crossover, and being able to pull a up a shot or find the open man. Cannot wait till the season to start.
