Delonte Arrested? (Windy article p. 31)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I still don't understand the need to carry a gun around in public. I've lived 26 years and have walked through some pretty shitty areas with a wallet, watch, phone, etc on me and never been mugged.

And if I was mugged and someone had a gun to my head, would I really have time to reach into my pocket, grab my gun, take the safety off and shoot the guy without getting myself killed? Don't these guys watch your pockets pretty closely when you pull something out of them?

I always thought having a gun on you was more of a liability, machismo thing than a real solution to problems you might face.

While I disagree with your first part (while you may not have ever been mugged, millions of people have including myself) you bring up an awesome point. If you have a gun, are you really going to have a chance to use it if the other guy has a gun too? Of course, not all muggings involve the other guy having a piece, but how are you to know that at the time?

All a gun lets you do is shoot him in the back as he runs to get your shit back.

Dude, did I mention Delonte West? No, I didnt.

You never ever never trust the government enough to give up your rights to guns no matter whether if you like whomever is the President or not.

One of the reasons why The Black Panthers came into existence was to stop the abuse and murder of people in Oakland. They started to "police the police." That was just a generation ago.

If you read the post I made shortly after the one you cite, you'd have seen that I corrected what I said about "oppression" and your comment. And you would have also seen that your statement about the Panthers echoes my thinking, but maybe that comment wasn't directed at me.

But you and everyone else should also understand that Delonte West's actions bear no necessary relationship to the right to bear arms.

Furthermore, you should be informed that the quote - "the strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government" - that you attributed to Jefferson has not been corroborated in any way whatsoever by any of Thomas Jefferson's extensive and voluminous surviving writings. I know, because I'm a professional Jefferson scholar at the university level. The quote is completely bogus and first appeared in 1993. People who attribute it to Jefferson are either 1) ignorant of this fact 2) lying to support a partisan argument.

Delonte is everything a Cavalier should be.

I like Delonte too, but a team full of gun-toting, bi-polar, motorcycle-riding head cases is not a recipe for success.

And for everybody who's jumping on my Aussie friend, Karma, the right to bear arms is not absolute, and Delonte is a damn fool.

The team isn't "full" of gun-toting, bi-polar, motorcycle-riding head cases though. It has one player who needs help. Period.

We do have a right to bear arms as long as all other laws are followed.

You're referring to the laws in Maryland that prohibit carrying concealed weapons and transporting loaded firearms, right?

The entire franchise has not made a statement on the issue all week and we have not received a lick of new evidence since last Friday. What exactly is going on? Are things worse than we actually think? Will he be in camp on Monday?

We did however have some nice articles in the PD written by Windhorst, Livingston and Pluto?

A team full of them no, but delonte is alot more sane than Rodman, and all he did was help 2 different teams win 5 rings. A little bit crazy is ok....the lakers took on artest who is 5 times crazier than west. I have no problems with delonte's issues, not that i am happy about the gun incident,....i just want to see him get healthy and back to doing what he likes to do most...play basketball.

If I hear he becomes a distraction or his teammates stop trusting him, then its a different story.

Karma,

Now please put the idea of bearing arms to the side for now because I'm not going to talk about it right now. Our history is something that we pride ourselves with very much and our founding fathers are people we revere as heroes. Comparing them to Dora the Explorer is a little disrespectful.

Also, you think the constitution is outdated? It was written to be a timeless document and can be updated via the amendment process. The Bill of Rights was included with the signing of our constitution. Comparing our constitution to the bible is also disrespectful. It's not a book of faith, it's framework for a government.

I'm not saying you were trying to attack Americans or our beliefs, I'm just saying that you are being somewhat offensive.
First off it was never my intention to offend if that is what I have done. There just seems to be some paranoia in questioning some of these beliefs.

Although nothing official has been stated, I wouldn't expect to see Delonte in camp. I'm sure on Monday lots of questions will be asked by the media present, and it's best I just let the team explain it how they feel is best.

I think we all know what the situation is on the medical side of things .... Right now it's a personal medical issue that Delonte has within his rights to keep private, and we've gotta respect that.

I know you can't say anything definitive, W&G but is there a chance Delonte isn't with the Cavs at all this year?

I'm expecting to have Delonte with us this year, and playing like the Delonte West we've come to know and appreciate.

Two straight years and we're missing Delonte at camp. Maybe the second year he comes with his head straight and has another amazing season. I'm not worried, particularly because of the people he's surrounded by. The organization, the staff, and the team.

Positive Spin Attempt:

Last year, Delonte freaked out and missed all of camp. He had an outstanding season.

This year, Delonte freaked out and will miss all of camp. __________________________. ?

Man this is a hell of a thread. I haven't taken the time to read through the whole thing, so I apologize if my question has already been answered or if someone has already said the same thing as me.

It seems to me that Lebron and Delonte are close, almost like family. Does anyone know how close the two are? I remember 2 years ago, I think the Cavs were playing the Wizards in the playoffs, and Delonte hits a game winning 3. Lebron's being interviewed after the game and the person interviewing him is talking about how great the victory is. Lebron states that, yes it's great to have the win, but the most important thing is that it helps Delonte's confidence. At the time I was thinking that Lebron was talking about Delonte's confidence on the court. Now that I look back, maybe he knew what was up with Delonte, and maybe he was referring to his confidence off the court.

Anyway, here's what I'm getting at. I truly don't believe that Lebron will leave the Cavs in 2010. But if he and Delonte are as close as I think they are, then how could he leave now? I know that winning championships is Lebron's priority. I just think that Delonte has now become one of many reasons why Lebron will stay.
