It’s not that likely we will ever know what truly happened. The only way a significant amount of evidence comes to light is if (1) these claims make it through discovery and to trial and (2) both sides litigate it as vigorously as possible.
Even then, the U.S. runs on an adversarial legal system, and as a lawyer I can tell you that part of litigation strategy is to obfuscate, confuse, and overstate facts to the end of strengthening your position. Your goal is to win, and truth telling is a priority only insofar as it’s consistent with winning. Other countries run on an “inquisitorial” model in which both sides, managed by the judge, work to uncover the truth. Not so here.
Long story short, I’m skeptical we’ll ever know what “really happened.” More likely these claims settle, the settlement agreements are kept confidential, and we’re all left to wonder.
