Deshaun Watson: Third Highest Paid QB in the AFC North (OUT for 2023)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
If you move on from Watson, you better be prepared to move on from other high caliber veterans. These players believe they are one semi-healthy Deshaun Watson away from a Super Bowl.

Moving on now, for him to succeed elsewhere would be the most Browns move ever.

Moving on from Watson most likely means blowing it up, tearing it down to the studs, starting over. And, that would fit perfectly into the negative "Browns will be the Browns" stereotype. It's too bad that there seems to be people who would rather see the team fail than to win with Watson. But it is what it is.

This is non news. There was always one case that refused to settle, happens to be the original case. She is allowed her day in court, but this has already been to NFL court and unless a new case comes up, not an old, Watson cannot be suspended, he served his time.

If the Browns have to eat the weight of his dead cap contract, yes, they're fucked and will have to restart.

But I think the situation that's being discussed is something coming up in this newest civil lawsuit that allows the Browns to void the remainder of his contract to no penalty. Based on what we've seen already, there's no reason to think anything will come forward though. But regardless.

From what we've seen from Watson's play and health I don't think it's crazy to think the Browns could be better off going forward getting out from under that contract and try to find their next franchise QB, especially now that they only owe more draft pick to Houston.

There's a disconnect in the logic of your comment. The current (presumably competent) GM and HC have never drafted a first round QB. Baker was drafted by Dorsey. So... ???
I'm not sure I understand, especially why Baker has been brought up.

He said the Browns FO is competent for once, but then hours later implied the Browns never draft good quarterbacks in the first round. Ray Farmer drafting Johnny Manziel and Phil Savage drafting Brady Quinn has zero to do with our current FO.

This is not the newest civil lawsuit. This is actually bad reporting. All that is happening here is the one of two lawsuit that didnt settle is going to trial. He has already been suspended for all of the suits, even the ones that didnt settle. He tried settling the one, this one and another one (that was dropped) he has claimed he didnt do anything with. Since he admitted to 24 of the 26, i tend to believe him.

FOR EVERYONE READING, WATSON CANNOT BE SUSPENDED FOR THIS LAWSUIT, HE ALREADY HAS. WE WILL NEED A NEW TRANSGRESSION FOR ANY FURTHER SUSPENSIONS

Better article here, just one of 3 remaining, but 2 were from a different lawyer because they really had no case against him, the third is the original, she is out for blood, not money. Cant say I dont blame her, but zero chance this leads to further suspension because its not new.

It seems this is the one case that still remains that he says he did nothing with, she is trying to get Watson to testify on all the other cases, which he refuses to do and doesnt have to as they are all separate and civil only too.

The lawsuit in question was filed in October 2022 — after the settlements — accusing Watson of coercing a massage therapist with “intellectual and mental disabilities” into performing oral sex during an appointment in 2020. Watson’s lawyer, Rusty Hardin, previously acknowledged Watson had consensual sex during massage therapy appointments but denied wrongdoing. Hardin called the latest accusation a “sham.”

Get this guy the fuck out of here.

He admitted to the others, denies this one and another one. And its a civil lawsuit, not proof he actually did it. There are allot of people who sue to get money even if he didnt do it.

Hold your moral jusgement on this one till it settles. I agree Watson is a piece of shit, but you cant say he is guilty of this because of a late lawsuit. They tried to get a settlement with Watson and he refused, stating it didnt happen.

Why not settle this one too and why didnt the lawyer that represented the other 24 girls refuse this one and another one? Probably because he actually didnt do this one.

Nope. Where there is a biblical amount of smoke, there is fire and this guy doesn't deserve any benefit of the doubt. Fuck him.

So fuck the constitution, our legal system and due process because Watson is a flaming asshole?

You just watched a has been QB walk onto the team mid season and blow out of the water anything Watson has done to the this point.... And you think Watson is the key to success?

If the browns could walk away from Watson right now I think they would do it and bring back Flacco for one more to. That said it's not going to happen

I didn't say that at all. My point is that I don't want this complete scumbag playing for the Browns, which you even acknowledged that he is a "piece of shit." A big part of the instant popularity that Joe Flacco gained around here is because many of us know that Watson is a serial predator and unapologetic sociopath, and it was quite refreshing to cheer for someone like Flacco instead. The Browns would be wise to see if they can void the contract and cut bait with Watson, who has been a below-average quarterback since arriving here.

A big part of the instant popularity that Joe Flacco gained around here has little do do with Deshaun Watson's personal life and everything to do with what Joe Flacco looks like.

The coded language was obvious enough when "fans" couldn't help themselves and couldn't find a way to be happy about Joe Flacco without bringing Deshaun Watson into the discussion.

Anyway,

I know people are still going to try to find ways that the team can get out of his contract and you can have fun racking your brain on that. Deshaun Watson is going to sign a new re-worked contract next offseason and it's likely going to be because he lives up to his expectations. Not really sure what people are going to bitch about then but it's not looking good for the folks that think the team is looking to get rid of him.
