Deshaun Watson: Third Highest Paid QB in the AFC North (OUT for 2023)

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
I think if you're caught up in the moment and the hype of the Bengals Super Bowl run you can make the case Burrow and Watson are close-ish or at least that the gap is not that wide.

It's just silly to say Lamar is better than Watson at this point.

Yeah, good way to put it, about Burrow. I like the kid but people penciling the Bengals into the AFC Champ for the next ten years don’t understand how the NFL works.

Lamar Jackson hasn't been great since his MVP year. He's been a middling QB with great rushing ability.

Burrow is pretty good, no doubt. Watson is demonstrably better. Watson was better in his 2nd season, and Burrow hasn't even come close to touching Watson's 2020 stats.

Also a reminder, QB Winz are not a real stat. Deshaun Watson had some awful head coaches, and in 2020, he had one of the worst defenses in NFL history behind him.

This isn’t the same offense, Coach, that’s the thing.

The most important piece of the offense went from a Honda Civic to a Lambo.

Chubb is a premier back and makes good money, but he’s not the premier offensive weapon anymore. That’s a good thing. Hunt makes peanuts, and part of his allure is the passing game anyway.

If Stefanski is game planning with this team the way he did the past two seasons, he won’t be here long.

Mahommes or Brady is the Lambo, we just went from a honda to Austin Martin, lol But still huge improvement, lol

Spicy Brent.

Obviously Mahommes is best, but Wilson is right there at 2nd best although Herbert is young and looks like a stud.

Watson might be best, Lamar is over rated, and Watson and Burrow had simular stats.

And it isnt about being better than Burrow alone, its bout having a better team than Cinci and we greatly improved the QB position. Went from average at best to very good although not quite elite.

I think you are underselling Watson here, but quite a bit.

Maybe, but I am not sure Watson is a top 5 QB in the league next year, i think i have him at about 7 or so.

Rodgers, Mahomes and Brady are the elite ones for sure though.

Then there are a bunch including Wilson and Watson who just moved aree in the very good category.

Excuse me?

Wilson is not better than Allen... Hell, I don't think Watson is better than Allen. Then you have Herbert, Burrow, Lamar, Murray, Stafford, Prescott.

There is no such thing as a top 5 anymore in today's NFL. There are just teams with elite QB and teams without elite QB.

So when you actually look year to year you have your top tier QBs year in and year out which are top 3 to 5-Mahomes, Wilson, Brady, Brees (previously). After that the next 10 are a constantly churning mix if QBs from year to year. Its not surprising to see a QB rank 12 one year, 6-7 the year after, and back down again the 3rd year. Maybe they are good enough to break into that top 3-5 one year, but never good enough to stay there. Thats your Stafford/Big Ben/Lamar Jackson/Prescott/Cousins mix ups. There isnt enough data out there yet, but I imagine thats where Herbert, Allen, and Murray end up as well.
