Dream Team 4: Golden State Warriors

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
They have bird rights on Livingston and Iggy, can sign them for what ever they want.

Will sign Durant to a max first most likely, that is the interesting part. Does Durant want to opt in and take less to stay or does Curry take less to stay?

They will very quickly get in to tax hell and that is where this off season gets interesting.

They will have the MLE to sign a player, but do they use it. They could easily get to tax payer level with just 9 players, the other 6 might all have to be vet min's.

They will lack depth, but their top 5 will still be best in NBA if Curry and Durant stay and probably take a bit less than they could make elsewhere.

Also 2 years more and Klay comes up, that will be interesting as he will get max money somewhere.

This core could explode this off season or in 2 years, but its coming.

I don't think they can sign Durant and Curry to a max and keep the bird rights of Livingston and Igoudala though? Wouldn't they have to denounce the rights in order to use up that much cap space on new contracts for Durant and Curry?

Only thing is that I think Curry has a small cap hold since his contract is so small relative to what he has become as a player.

@col63onel any insight on how this works?

With Curry's small cap hold all they do is sign durrant first if he opts out, then sign Curry then Livingston and Iggy and they are fine.

The only one without birds rights is Durant, not sure how much they can pay durnat increase wise, but i think he has to leave some money on the table to stay.

Curry, livingston and iggy all have bird rights, so can be signed in any order for any amount. But, the luxury tax is looming very large for GS this year.

@Lee is correct that Curry's cap hold really saves them. It will only be about 18mil. And they definitely will sign Durant first.

Klay + Nutkicker + Looney + Mccaw + Jones + Thompson + Curry cap hold + unused roster spots = 60 mil

With an estimated cap of 103mil, that leaves them 43 mil. If Durant opts in, which is by far the best case scenario for them, they are at 87 mil. That doesn't include any of the cap holds for Iggy, Liv or any of their bigs. They could renounce everyone, and try and fill out the roster with 16 mil plus the room MLE and BAE. Or they could keep the cap holds and stay over the cap, and use the full MLE, as long as they stay below the apron, which would allow them to keep the same team, and maybe add a piece.

If he wants a full max, they have to use cap space, which makes it troublesome. They'd have to either renounce Iggy and Liv, or get them to sign cheaply first. And after Durant signs, they'd only have about 8-10mil left in space, plus the room MLE.

So long story short, it depends on if Durant opts in at 27mil or wants a full max.

Basically what i was saying, but there is some formula which i dont want to figure out at this time where they can near max out durrant and keep either iggy or livingston. If one is willing to sign for the MLE, they can renounce and bring them back after Durant is signed.

But they will lose some of their current players and all of their bench will be a year older, they will not get to use the MLE as they will be technically under the cap unless Durant opts in\ and they dont renounce anyone.

Basically, yes.

But, the luxury tax is looming very large for GS this year.

It won't be a problem, given that their market allows them to raise ticket prices and revenue without issue.

Heaven help us if their market is the start of a very-long-term dynasty, in the same way as how the Lakers managed only 5 playoff misses for half a century.

In 105 minutes without McGee on the court, Portland is +4.

In 39 minutes with McGee on the court, GS is +51.

Guys if you have the balls, check McGee's playoffs advanced stats and tell me he isn't a superstar.

Not surprising considering I've watched the three games and I can't tell you who is the center for the blazers

Who would've thought an athletic big man that can protect the rim catch lobs can really help you win games, but we had to play an undersized center who's not a good rim protector or position defender for 82 games and now going into the playoffs.

I know Bogut getting hurt really killed the front office plans but they needed a backup plan for that position someone that played the entire season with us like GS did with McGee, they knew the importance of a real big man we didn't.

I still think that McGee will have a hard time playing against the Cavs. Thompson will kill him on the glass. He can't defend in space against Frye and Love. And LeBron and Kyrie will kill him in pick and rolls.
