Luke Jackson pre back injury was a hell of a player. Shame he started slipping disks at 19.
Comps are weird. It’s like walking into a trap to mention Klay. He is just so good. And I don’t watch college b-ball until the tourney. But from what we know about him, Windler seems like he has a similar game to college Klay to me. But... I didn’t watch college Klay.
Why am I posting this? Wtf was my point? I will see myself out and make sure I close the door.
This guy is Klay likeThis guy may be a case like Jeremy Lin, should have gone much higher (or in Lin's case be a lottery pick but he went undrafted) but didn't due to stereotypes.
Jackson was well worth a lottery pick. He had back issues he didn't know about that started his rookie year. But yes, Iggy would've been the better pick and was my top target in that draft. And a shame the Cavs got played into reaching for Jackson with the 10th pick. Jackson would have been a much better pick at #26. If only Igoudala had fallen one more spot.
Positive spin: at least they didnt draft Arujo at 8.
I love the fact that Windler is a plus rebounder too. Shows that he isn’t afraid to mix it up down low. He’s a modern day small forward and can even play some power forward periodically, if the Cavs go small
Klay is arguably the second best shooter of all-time on top of being an all-NBA defender. That may be Windler's ceiling, but frankly, his odds of reaching those heights are minimal. It's not that easy to find talent like Klay.
I think if he can play PF even if it's just in small ball lineups, it's his easiest path to break into the rotation early on. We really lack a backup for Love. At SF he is probably fighting with Cedi and Porter for minutes. At backup PF, it's basically no one right now.
It just puts unfair expectations on the kid... If, as a Cav, Windler has a similar impact to last year's versions of Jared Dudley, Joe Harris or Bogdanovic then that will be an immense success at the 26th pick. And those are three players where I think the comparison fits. Its why none of us want to say it. But we are fans, don't spend 100's of hours watching film. So we draft a guy and us fans dig into the tape, combine numbers and stats. And when you do that, Klay Thompson is who you get. No way that is possible, but its eye opening.
The first question that was asked can he play guard, he is only 200lbs. And so like most we see he is white, but we start digging into athletic numbers. First someone points out he has a 37.5 max vert...hmm, that's athletic. Then I start looking at agility numbers and he is very athletic compared to other guards, 3rd and 7th. Then he comes out he is skinny, but strong.
So then we move onto the stats and they are very similar to Klay's in college. Its eye opening that his ceiling is that high, but what it really shows is that he is not unathletic, can play guard, has the tools to be a good defender at the NBA level and we already know he is possibly the best shooter in the draft.

I mean, there are literally four posts directly comparing him to Klay, which is something that is unfair to Windler. Sorry if you didn't feel like reading the discussion. Thanks Captain Obvious.
