ESPN: Hornets may package Collison with poison pill.

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Myyoung, the problem that I have with taking either Posey or Peja is that we have both of those spots covered with equal or better players. Posey is a SF, we have LeBron James, Peja is a SG and Parker is a better player. At C we have Andy Varejao who is not a better player than Okafor, they are basically equals. Center is a huge need for this teamm, and by trading to get Okafor it fills that need as well as getting us two young twentie somethings to go along with our star.

MYoung is 100% correct here.

Its Posey, then Peja, then Okafor in terms of desired contracts to take back and it really shouldn't even be an argument.

It amazes me how many people can't seem to grasp that Okafor sucks.

That said, I'm sure New Orleans isn't sacrificing Collison just to dump Posey's contract. That seems too good to be true.

If it were to have to be Posey that we trade or in order to get Collison than I would try a Jamario/Delonte for Posey/Collison swap. Instantly the Hornets save over 4 million dollars which almost wipes Posey off of their books, and jamario is an expiring. I just don't like the fact that we have LeBron playing 40 minutes a night, and that Posey will need 15 or so, and then Jamario would be left out in the dust getting no playing time.

Maybe Grant can convince the Hornets that Paul's contract is bad then we could get CP3 and Collison
:chuckles:

I was hoping Cavs would have a chance to draft Collison in the draft but he just wasnt there
also cant believe Cavs missed out on Afflalo
Nuggets got him for a 2nd round pick in the 2011 draft.

Okafor would still start for us, I don't care how bad his contract is. He'd also be our best 5. He might not be worth his contract, but thems the breaks.

if we could trade expirings for Collision then trade Mo for a SG/lot. pick combination LBJ would have to stay. Having said that, this is all too good to be true.

Wow i would love to have a top pg...But dam posey, peja and emeka are turnoffs...Would be bad to get emeka because we already have av...Peja defense sucks and posey is ok

Im not all that over the deal

Well nobody is just going to hand is great players for trash this offseason so consider that.

I knew people would look at those bad contracts and pick the worst one.
Obviously because 1) Peja isn't a bad contract, and 2) if it's just Posey, we will be outbid. Unless you're talking about giving up JJ too.

This report is laughable anyway. "Take the cap clogging contract of Peja" uhh...yeah, maybe a year ago. But he's kinda an expiring now. I'm sure the Hornets will look to trade one of their few assets with an expiring for....an expiring. Right.

A billionaire owner is not going to trade one of their only assets for crap when their superstar is not happy. We can only offer crap, again, unless you're willing to move JJ.

Also, everyone says that Gilbert and Grant are looking to make a big move this summer. That doesn't seem to qualify but might nevertheless might be a good deal. Can Okafor still play?

You are allowed to make more than 1 trade ;). We can still make another move to get something else we need.

Trade 1: CAVS/NO

D West and Jamario for Collison and Posey

Why for NO: Takes Posey's contract off the books. Wiave Delonte and save big by getting well under lux tax. Replace Posey with cheaper Jamario who is also off the books after the season.

Why for Cavs: Adds lightening quick penatrating young PG who was scooled in D under Ben Howland at UCLA. Replaces Moon with older but more well rounded James Posey. Leaves other assets for additional trades(Hickson, picks, Parker, Mo)

Trade 2: Expanded version

Jamison, D West, Moon future picks for Okafor, Collison, Posey, NO pick #11

Gives NO major present day and future salary relief. D West for Posey saves them money immediately. Okafor for Jamison converts Okafors 4 years remaining contract to Jamisons 2 years remaining contract. Biggest risk for NO is if this infuriates CP3 into demanding a trade. If they balk at the #11 pick, I still might do the deal as long as we can take out the future picks from us out of the equation.

Negatives for us would be Okafor's contract if he can't re-establish his game playing with LeBron. Roster duplicity if we can't trade Mo to a west coast team like GS or SAC

Wouldn't we almost have to take Omeka? Isn't trades based on trying to make it look like you, in better words, take it to the other team?

Omeka would make sense for us as we, as of right now, don't really have a Center. AV seems to work best as the 6th man and is good on spot starts in place of injury.

Collison/Omeka could allow Mo to be shipped out for a SG or whatever else the team is looking for. Problem is, we don't really have a coach yet and picking the right players could be tricky without know what type of team the new HC would be running. The players may look good when the trade is made, but might not fit schemes the HC wants to run.

So sick of reading ridiculous trade ideas. Wish we'd just make a damn trade already.

but you cannot deny he'd be a good backup C.

I would have to argue that. He would be a very good starting center IMO. In simple terms... He's better than anything we've got.

Now we would need a back up alternative to combat the likes of Howard and LA if we get to them. Re-up Shaq for a year at a reasonable price?

Parker is not better than Stojakovic even in his rapidly declining state. Posey would allow you trade Parker's expiring and keep other expirings to make a potentially more impactful move than adding Okafor who would use up your assets amassing enough salary to make the trade work.

Okafor doesn't fill a need because he isn't the answer for the position.

Okafor and Collison.

I'd do it!

Addresses 2 major concerns at once. Get a young big and basically a young and bright future ahead of him type PG. Collision would be a great talent to place around LeBron and have the 2 of them grow together (assuming LBJ stays.) Collision would instantly be a starter here, and then you back him up with Boobie/Telfair (guessing that Mo will be gone).

I think the Cavs can beat any team to the punch. Who else is willing to pick up a hefty contract like Emeka's? Not many team's that are contending really are in dire need of a center too like we are.

Interesting...
