I kind of feel like they ask too much from Mobley on D (this is probably true of Allen as well) but it's because our guards are often absolutely horrendous at D. The amount of times a game he has to try to cover someones ass is pretty absurd really. He's nearly good enough to actually pull it off a lot of the times, but it's pretty garbage scheme and coaching. I guess you hope he gets mad at some point and gives the guards (other than Okoro) some serious shit for how often they screw up.

He showed some nice offensive flashes in the first half. Then I wasn't focusing on him too much, but did he even play the second half? He was pretty much a non-factor when nobody was stepping up while the game was being lost.

If Phil Handy was still with the Cavs he would hate that wide stance and try to change it even if he was shooting 39% from 3.
The wide stance imo is the result of lack of lower body strength. His legs are toothpick. Needs to strengthen that base in order to be a consistent shooter and be better finishing through contact.

He needs ti build wiry strength and core strength rather than tree trunks

can he play the 3
He cant even dribble the ball without turning his back to the defender. Don't even look at the basket when he gets the ball on the perimeter. Does not have the footwork for a decent catch and shoot.

He's a center. Making him a player different from his natural ability will be another set back for his already lack of development.

The problem with this is that Mobley has stated he doesn't think himself a center nor a back to the basket offensive big, which makes me scratch my head because that is how he actually plays.

But does he really???? I would argue the opposite. You just don't see it due to under usage......and I bet after Jb is gone, looking for a coach that will move away from iso guard play and into motion offense to take advantage of Mobley's skill set will be first on the list. Fans are clueless

What we know so far about 3rd year Mobley.

Biggest strength: switchable defense
He has a down year which can be attributed with injuries, but at his best, he is a game changer defensively. I expect him to be back as a top 3 defender next year.

Slightly above average skill: short roll play maker
Mobley is good in not holding the ball too long in short roll actions. Finds the open kick out most of the time and the big to big passing between him and Allen is a weapon. It is just disappointing to see Mobley abandon his floater and his spin to the right fadeaway which was part of his repertoire during his rookie year. He needs to find those skills back to make him a more dynamic player off the roll.

Developing skill: catch and shoot 3
In no way he is a good shooter right now but he has shown willingness to let it fly. The power transfer, footwork, and form is still inconsistent but the makes have generally looked good. There is something workable here.

What he’s not: a scorer
He does not have the natural skill/talent to become a go to scorer. He is not a Wemby or a Chet who has dribble combos, shooting touch and coordination that is unheard of with their size. But he can build off off the skills he has. Pattern his game to Green(minus the antics) or Adebayo. All reports say he works hard, I’m sure he will get there eventually.

Don't look now, but Mobley is shooting over 37% from three. His shot is slow as hell, but he's approaching the point where teams have to guard him honestly and not leave him open.

As impressive as the raw number is, what's more impressive is that it appears to be the product of him being told by the coaching staff to work more on his three-point shot. Given his athletic ability, the ability and willingness to work on skills and improve them is a huge positive sign.

Good sign on the percentage hut the stat to watch long term will be the volume. Unless we trade him for DFS. Then who cares

His volume will depend at least in part on how much the coaches/players decide to involve him in the offense. From what I've seen, he doesn't look unwilling to take those shots if he is open and given the ball.
