Ex Guards are the Best Guards {'24}

Do Not Sell My Personal Information
Wil Benson on fire as his breakthrough season continues. .293/388/500/888 Ops while providing speed and defense and power.

Meanwhile The FO”s and fans choice of Wil the thrill Brennan continues his mediocre play with a sad sack line of .275/305/402/707

Look at minor league career numbers as well...

Brennan has always been the better player in the minors outside of one stat and that's HRs...

Brennan at worst was a solid fielding strong side of the platoon/4th OF... Benson is a high risk, high reward type and right now, Cleveland is looking silly, but how will the league adjust back and how will he make an adjustment back to that... That's the part that makes or breaks a player. As Bimbo stated, Brennan has adjusted back and he has been very good sense. Brennan is a contact first type, so he will never have the best OPS since he doesn't walk a ton or SO a lot and is focused on getting on base over hitting for power...

Over the last 2 months and his last 170 PAs Brennan is slashing .313/.337/.454

Since June 1 when the rest of the team woke up he is slashing .319/.348/.478

Last 2 weeks he is slashing .310/.341/.452

He had enough PAs to finally have an accurate scouting report early on in the season, teams adjusted to him and pitched to him differently, and then he had to adjust back and he's done just that. He's one of the last players fans should be complaining about right now.
Agreed. Big fan of Brennan. Wished he was more disciplined on breaking balls. But dude is still raking

I'm wondering if Brennan will hit more home runs. He has the power. Right now he's pretty much a singles-doubles guy (5 HR's in 238 AB's) who rarely walks. He's only walked 8 times in 238 AB's.

He's also hitting just .209 with RISP as he appears overaggressive and chases bad pitches, getting himself out in the most important at-bats.

I want to see Will be more patient and get ahead in the count, especially with RISP. He needs to work more walks and get more balls in the air to take advantage of his power. Finally, he's hitting .156 against lefties. At the moment all he's good at is hitting mostly singles against RHP's in low leverage situations. There's nothing wrong with hitting .295/.760 agianst right-handed pitching, but for him to be the starting right fielder in the future he needs to draw more walks, hit for more power, and get better with RISP and against lefties.

In the last 30 days, since 6/12, Nolan Jones is hitting .239 with 1 HR and 28 Ks in 71 ABs. FWIW. (Which isn't much.)

He was at the magic career 200 PAs number right around 6/12, wasn't he? That's my guess.

If so he's being pitched to differently. We'll see how he adjusts. My guess though is he is still getting on base a good bit and putting up a respectable OPS even with the batting average struggles. What made him such a safe player.

Yeah Brennan is a very good hitter but you're 100% right. He has yet to see a pitch he doesn't like. When he learns to be more selective he'll be a great hitter.

Benson now with an OPS over .900. Still treated like he's allergic to lefties, and his wOBA is much less than his xwOBA but that includes his godawful start.

Jones has been playing a little less than I'd expect but still holding a respectable 114 wRC+ that doesn't look extremely lucky.

Both have been K-ing more recently.

Benson is on his way to becoming a star while the Team talent evaluators and those on this site preferred the light hitting career 4 th outfielder Wil the thrill Brennan.

Benson now is hitting 292/398/533/931 while stealing bases and playing stellar defense.

Wil Brennan this sites choice is posting Jimmy Norris type numbers : 260/292/376/668

His platoon partner Oscar Gonzales is flailing away at AAA .

Reminds me of what happened with Brandon Phillips years ago. The same dummies made the same stupid decision to give away a talented player that didn’t progress fast enough. Anyone with an IQ of 50 knew Wil Benson struggles big time at every level. But this Nit Wit FO was deceived by the fools gold of Brennan and Gonzales last season.

Now they will have to watch Wil Benson and Jones become Stars or border line stars while the stiffs they chose will become vagabond”s

Jones had his time squeezed by the return of Bryant, and by the Rockies managers love affair with Jurickson Profar that looks a lot like Tito's with Amed. He's returned back down to earth, though, so let's see how he does in this new part time role.

Cincy is just putting Benson in a position to succeed. I imagine over time they expose him to more and more lefties. Obviously teams can't do this with all young left-handed hitters but the Reds can afford to with the hitters they have.

Junior Caminero has cooled off. Yainer Diaz has been solid in part-time ABs for Houston, looks like he isn't unseating Maldonado as a primary C for the rotation.

What an awful post.

Nolan had some personal things, why his PT dropped off. He was away for the team for a bit. He’s been pretty much an everyday guy again since he got back with the team.
Since the All Star Break:
7/14 - Pinch Hitter
7/15 - Start
7/16 - Start
7/18 - Start
7/19 - Pinch Hitter
7/21 - Did Not Play
7/22 - Start

I thought the personal things were something before the ASB, unless they're still happening. He was playing pretty much every day for a while, and this looks like a trend in the other direction.
