We had to do it to clear space for LeBron. If we didn't have LeBron out there saying he wanted the max then maybe we could have had some leverage to keep one of those guys, but at the end of the day you take LeBron over Zeller and Karasev 10 times out of 10. Stop whining.

We could have used the stretch provision on Jack and made some other moves (dump our 2nd round picks) and not dump quality assets in the process.

To further clarify: The 2011 CBA dramatically changes this regimen. While contracts signed under the 2005 CBA remain under the original scheme, different rules apply to new contracts. When a team waives a player signed under the 2011 CBA, it can spread the remaining guaranteed salary (and its accompanying cap hit) over twice the remaining length of the contract, plus one year.

Jack had 2 years guaranteed at $6.3 million each and a 3rd year with $500k guaranteed. That would have allowed the Cavs to stretch his $12.8 million guaranteed salary over a period of 7 years. $12.8 million/7 years = $1.83 million/year.

Anyone notice how well Zeller has been playing in limited minutes for the Celtics? Absolutely hated that we gave up Zeller, as I really liked his game, but I guess we didn't really have a choice unless we didn't want to get Lebron.

In 20 minutes per game…
10 points, 5.5 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and .7 blocks per game
which translates to a per 36 of…
17.5 points, 10 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.5 blocks

His FG% is 56% and his FT% is 83%, so he has a TS% of 61%

Offensive Rating of 121 and defensive rating of 106 (for those of you who don't understand advanced stats, that's very good, especially on a bad team)

WS/48 is .188 and PER is 19.7

Really happy he's succeeding. Always liked him as a player and a person.

I wonder what kind of contract offers he receives next year? Can he be had for the MLE?

With Sullinger out and their moves, he'll be getting a lot more run. Just picked him up on one of my fantasy teams, which means he will fall on his face.

He's scored in double digits 4 out of the last 5 games, including a 22 point effort against Sacramento the other night.

I hate that the Cavs had to let him go. He's going to be a serviceable rotation big at the very least for many years to come.

We heard some rumors that the Cavs didn't want to hold onto Zeller for reasons not necessarily related to basketball. And I have no problem with us getting rid of him if that was the case. However, I just hated that we basically just gave him away for free when we probably didn't have to. The kid was pretty obviously going to mature into a solid rotation player in the NBA. You can't just give guys like that up without getting some compensation back.

Enough of this Zeller crap. The front office has put us in position today, to be a top 3-5 favorite for the 2015 title. They have done a hell of a job. Not every move will be perfect in hindsight but it's on the players and coaches today. That's all you can ask for from the front office. We own 4 of our next 5 draft picks too. The heat own 2.

What were the non-related basketball reasons for letting him go?

Dude, everyone has acknowledged that we're winning so it really doesn't matter that we gave him up. Just complimenting him on his good play and saying that it sucks we couldn't keep him considering he was basically a salary filler. If you don't wanna hear about him, you don't have to come in this thread.

Ok that's fair. It's not like we traded James Harden. But good for Zeller putting up decent numbers. Sounds like his mouth got him sent out anyways.

Zeller had an issue with keeping his mouth shut to reporters. Want an off the record comment about the dysfunction of the team? Ask Zeller, he'll deliver.

Gotcha, I wasn't aware of all that. Thanks for the info.

Anyone catch the reason that Zeller only got 12 minutes lst night?
