I miss White Diamonds already…

Edit: Oops - I see that my sentiments are shared...

Somehow, Zeller has become an effective low post defender. After seeing him thrown around like a rag doll for two years, I have to admit I'm surprised. I think we can all agree that while Zeller finally looks like he belongs in the NBA, Love is a better player. Kevin Love's salary wouldn't have fit without the three way trade going down. You don't get All Pros for nothing; there was collateral damage in clearing salary.

That's why I get so annoyed over the spilled milk threads about us giving up Zeller and Karasev.

Yes, that sucks, and there would probably have been a way to hang on to both had ownership not been meddlesome and caused some problems that needed fixing.

But if you can get two All Pros after locking down a third, and the only price to pay is that it's going to take an extra year to fill the holes it causes, then I'll pay that price 7 days a week.

Zeller being in the deal was not necessary financially to afford Love or Lebron.

Also tell me what Love is doing for this team that Zeller couldn't? And it is not because Love is not a better player than Zeller-he is. But on a team with Lebron and Kyrie-we have relegated Love to be a spot up shooter. I still think a team is better off with 2 "stars" and a lot of great role players than 3 "stars" and nothing.

For this year:
Zeller-TT
AV-AB
Lebron-M Miller
Wiggins-Waiters
Kyrie-Delly

The Zeller-AV combo was very good last year in the plus minus department.

And lost in the shuffle is we also gave up the 2015 Miami Heat pick in the Love trade--which is looking like it has a chance to be a lottery pick.

So our trade assets would have been the Heat pick, the Memphis pick, Waiters and AB.

I do like Kevin Love-just don't think for the max contract and role he will have here, the trade's were worth it.

Also Optimally we should have just attached Tristan to get rid of Jack. More salary gone, save Karasev and our 2016 #1 pick also. And the key, not have a chance to overpay TT after this year.

Also for fun, I don't think many realize just how good Zeller is playing this year:

I just don't see the point of sayings "Sure would be nice to have Zeller." It was getting said like clock work around here for a bit. It seems to have tailed off a bit now, but it comes up every once in a while. Sure it would be nice. But he isn't here. Time to move on.

I see it being more legitimate to bring up if it is being used to assess Griffin's performance or something in that thread, but besides that I don't get the point to keep harping on the fact that Zeller isn't here anymore.

Love was never going to be a plug and play acquisition. The whole reason the Cavs acquired Love when they did rather than waiting for the proverbial "better deal" at the deadline was because they knew it would take time to figure out the offense. The hope/expectation is that we'll have figured out how to use him much more effectively by the time the playoffs roll around. Judging his role after just two months of the season is way premature.

He also rebounds the hell out of the ball.

No one seems to be able to explain being a worse rebounding team with Love.

I saw right away last year that Zeller playing much better including d. I said getting Hawes was stupid when we could have been getting Zeller minutes. If he had gotten those minutes, we could have gotten something for him. The way our team undervalued big men is terrible and continues to haunt us.

2 good young cheap players to get rid of Jack and a 1st rounder was too much. Max has even said so. Giving up all assets and not holding onto your only center was stupid. Straight up.

Well think of some of the bigs that were brought in when Z was here and then traded away. And the fact they avoided drafting some trying to hit lightning in a bottle with SG's or undersized PF's.

It's not like Jack's contract was THAT bad that we had to give up 2 young guys and a 1st. Was he overpaid? Sure. Was he absurdly overpaid? Absolutely not. And he is only on the hook until after next season (team option). That is one of the worst trades I've ever seen. I voiced that opinion at the time and it's proving to be even worse than I originally thought (Karasev is playing better than I expected).

We had to do it to clear space for LeBron. If we didn't have LeBron out there saying he wanted the max then maybe we could have had some leverage to keep one of those guys, but at the end of the day you take LeBron over Zeller and Karasev 10 times out of 10. Stop whining.

I agree, I saw a lot of potential with Zeller last year and now he is balling with Boston.

Classic big guys develop slower than the rest.
